Sleeping on tummy?

I always sleep laying on my front. I'm 22 weeks and struggling to sleep, and when I do I naturally go into my comfortable belly sleep position. I'm not too big that I can't do it but is it dangerous? And how can I stop myself doing it in the night?

It's not dangerous at all. You are fine.

Hi I was the same through two pregnancies. Got a breastfeeding/pregnancy pillow which prevented me from lying in my front.
Still using it 6 months later. DH hates it and constantly threatens chucking it outWink

Hi Emma - I feel your pain. I have always slept on my front, it was always the only position I could fall asleep in. I'm 28 weeks now though and my dream position is a thing of the past. I tried to find comfortable ways of maybe being a little bit on my front but it just wasn't working. I'm now a side sleeper and have adapted. Don't worry about any potential risks, I don't think there are any, and give it a few weeks and it will be impossible to do anyway Smile

Sleep that way until it stops being comfortable. For me that was about 23 weeks.

I'm 29 weeks and keep waking up on my belly. I don't get woken up by how uncomfortable it is, but when I do wake up it feels horrible.

Hmm, I'm glad I saw this thread as I half sleep on my front, if that makes sense, but was scared if be squashing baby. Incidentally, heard it's bad to sleep on your back??

And it wont harm the baby? ToddleWoddle, the pillow is a good idea, just a normal one or can you get special maternity one?
Will continue until no longer possible! ??

I slept on my tummy until I was around 28 weeks - it's was when bubs decided she didn't want me doing it any more and would kick and wriggle when I rolled over! I find now that I lay slightly on my stomach but I support the majority of my body weight with pillows. She seems happy with this!

Your body will tell you if baby isn't comfy. Even during the night if you've turned over in your sleep your body will wake you up if baby isn't happy. Don't worry about it, as long as your comfy make the most of the sleep while you can before it becomes a thing of the past!

I can't seem to sleep too well on my side, back seems comfy or half on tummy/front. Just concerned about back sleeping as loads of stuff on web suggests it would cut off circulation or something :/

If it cut off circulation then you would wake up with it before I it did any harm. I'm sure many women slept on their backs during pregnancy before the dozens of rule of what you should and shouldn't do came about. Our bodies are made to carry baby's and I believe they will tell us if there is a problem.
