Not feeling baby's movements

I'm 38 + 3 and was just wondering how many times I should be feeling my baby move. My midwife said 10 a day but baby has only had 3 definite movements today - none since about 7ish. Was having painful contraction-like pains last night and had some tummy twinges today - could it all be related?

could be. I know from all my pregnancies (5), that all slowed down in movement in the last 2 days before they were born. Sounds like you may be gearing up.

That said, you also sound worried, which to me suggests a call to your midwife for some reassurance. I remember having to go to be monitered(sp?? looks wrong!) in the last few days too if I hadn't had my 10 movements before 7pm.

Just to say.....a friend had her baby early this morning(), and she was discharged from hospital by 11am as they had a huge rush. Apparently the heat is triggering labour!!!!

Agree with psychomum, it's not necessarily anything to worry about but I would get checked anyway. With my second I hardly felt any movements towards the end but he wasn't that active earlier in the pg either.

thanks, have had a really cold glass of water and have felt a flutter so maybe if i try and de-stress baby will bounce around a bit and then i'll jus moan about no sleep again !
hope the heat works on me - way too hot for this bump now
thanks again and congrats to your friend - hope mum and baby are well

With my 1st pregnancy I was 30 wks when didn't feel ds moving, I left it for a day or so before I called my maternity unit for advise. I went in and was monitored for the afternoon, also went for a scan just to check everything was ok, he ended up arriving at 40 + 6.
I'm currently 37 weeks prg and so far everything has been ok and lumpy always on the move.
Just hope this heat won't catch me out too early!

mum and baby are great thankyou. she is suffering from after pains tho which I can empathise with. She has just had no.5 baby, so has now caught me up!!

She is just sad that she didn't have more time in hospital with baby so appreciate him on his own before returning to the bedlam of now 5....

Baby was 7lb3oz, and now named Charlie. This morning when I heard news he was William. Rang this evening to tell me the name change, saying the heat and pain have addled her brain.

well - baby obviously likes making me look daft ! after bawling to dh i hopped back into bed only for my tummy to start bouncing around like a cat stuck in a pillowcase!!!
am much calmer today - jus absolutely sweltering and having quite painful twinges (suppose running up and down the stairs with the hoover isn't helping - bloody nesting instinct ! ).
