just got my BFP but no pregnancy symptoms - is this normal?

Hi there
I just got my BFP and am super excited but I have no symptoms whatsoever and am really worried that this is not a good sign

only thing is cramps in my legs, and tummy similar to start of AF and yesterday intense jabbing pain for about 2 hours which was a real worry until it finally went - relief

I know its very early but is any of this normal or should I be worried about the jabbing pain or lack of normal pregnancy symptoms?

any advice greatly received x

Hi,
I didn't have any symptoms at all when I found out and still didn't until about 9/10 weeks. Even then all I felt was hungry all the time so not everyone has any. Panic not :) I am now 39 weeks so hopefully that will give you some reassurance !

Symptoms don't always kick in straightaway - not until about 8 weeks for me although I'm sure it varies from person to person and indeed pregnancy to pregnancy.

thanks blondie - that is reassuring - I am very early (4 weeks) but have sadly had a few mc before so am very anxious about this one

I read somewhere that it was a worry and concern not to get any symptoms but now Ive heard you're 39 weeks that is very reassuring to know - phew :-)

hope it all goes well for you - I would love to be 39 wks right now :-)

thanks shoe - I would welcome sore boobs and nausea just to give me some reassurance but everyones different as you say and probably experiences different things at diff times

as long as everything is fine then I guess I could live without sickness and aching boobs!

I really wouldn't worry because whatever happens is out of your control. Also worrying won't help so relax and enjoy having no symptoms ! Count yourself as one of the lucky ones- I did!
I cannot wait to not be pregnant anymore! These last few weeks are awful so make the most of fitting in your clothes, being able to move, sleep and walk!! Good luck with it all- hope you can relax :)

The stabby pains are a pregnancy symptom though I would be reassured by that.

I posted practically the exact same thing when I was pregnant (DD is now 15 months) haven't read other replies so sorry if I'm repeating anyone else but I had absolutely no symptoms, no morning sickness etc. I too was worried about this and was convinced there would be nothing there at the 12 week scan but everything was perfect! I generally had a very good pregnancy other than a few niggles here and there and exhaustion towards the end but please try not to be worried (difficult I know and easy for me to say now!). Wishing you all the best and fingers crossed your pregnancy stays easy and happy Smile

I've barely had any symptoms at all, and I'm 13+2, had a lovely12 wk scan showing happy and healthy baby.

Most symptoms like sickness will arrive around 6 weeks, but if you're lucky you Won't get much of anything, like me Wink

stabby pains are normal. I had no symptoms til week six and then the nausea and tiredness quicked in, I am now week 10 and after a month of throwing up really hope that it will ease up in the next few weeks. Grin. Enjoy, loads of weird and wonderful symptoms await you round the corner.

Pretty symptom-free here, too! Didn't feel a thing at your stage. Googled like mad for first 9 weeks because I felt so 'normal'. Had an early scan because I was so incredulous and disbelieving. Intermittent sore boobs, tiny occasional bouts of nausea (probably because I was looking for them) and going off (my beloved) coffee. Blob with hb at 9 weeks, proper baby-shaped thing 3 weeks later at 12 week scan. Now 19+2 and still convinced I'm making it all up!

Please don't worry that having no symptoms is a bad sign, because it most definitely isn't. I know it's a worry after mc. I had one at 6 weeks in Jan - and before it happened, I had no preg symptoms, either.

Congrats!

thanks so much for all your replies - that's so helpful and really so reassuring :-)
I would add the flower and smiley icon if I knew how to do this on my computer!

Im very anxious as prevoius pregnancies have been also been symptom free and all sadly ended in mc so I am desperately wanting this one to be ok

its very reassuring that you all were symptom free in the early weeks -its so very early for me being only 4 weeks so I am just going one day at a time. Im quietly elated but trying not to get ahead of myself given past experiences

just wanted to ask if any of you had a beta hcg blood test in these early days - I would find this helpful as I know that in a healthy pregnancy this doubles every 48 hours - did anyone have this or do you think it is not necessary?

thanks again for all your advice

I had no symptoms at all until 20 weeks Grin. Didn't even know I was pregnant.
I do have pcos so the fact my period never came wasn't unusual. I'm now 30 weeks and have a large wriggly bump but other than that I still haven't had sore boobs, sickness or backache nothingSmile

thanks everyone for confirming that stabbing pains are a normal part of pregnancy - I was convinced that this was the end as this is what happened previously and the pain was a real take your breath away kind - really alarming - thankfully it didn't continue for endless hours - now I know its part of the pregnancy I am relieved

congrats to all of you on your pregnancies - its so good to be able to talk to you all - you have the very BEST first hand experience

have started to get much more crampy period type symptoms tonight so I am hoping that is normal too - fingers crossed :-)

Just dont stress everyone is different I never found out I was pregnant until 14 weeks and that was because I had no symptoms at all! All I had was a gut instinct as I was still taking the pill. I am now 36 weeks with tones of late pregnancy aches and pains enjoy the no symptoms while it lasts!!

wow - strongcoffee its amazing that you're symptom free at 30 weeks

Hearing all your wonderful stories I am now no longer yearning for sore boobs and sickness like I was before but will just embrace my symptom free pregnancy :-)

great advice chelsealady - I will now fully embrace the lack of symptoms

the only small symptom I have had is insomnia ever since I got my BFP -I have read that this is a symptom of pg and continues throughout - now this is a symptom I am NOT relishing = I have been walking round like a zombie for the past few days - a very happy and ecstatic zombie but a completely shattered one from lack of sleep - that is one symptom that I would like to remove immediately!

I think i sleep on average 4 hours a night its harder the further you get along because it gets harder to find a nice position to sleep in with your big bump! Even rolling from one side to the other takes tons of effort. The insomnia will also get joint by the lovely 'head pushing on bladder making you get up 5 times in the night to wee'. The joys of being 30+ weeks pregnant. Im only just at 36 and if i go overdue it could be another 6 weeks i dont know how much more my body will take lol!

I had to symptoms until about 12 weeks (went to epu 2 times convinced I'd mc as didn't 'feel' pregnant). Had mc previously where I had a lot of symptoms so don't think it's related.. I'm now 32w and all is well so just enjoy it while you can. There are lots of lovely symptoms waiting for you!

hello - can I pop my head in? got my bfp this week and have really bad af-like pains. haven't done a digi so don't know how far I am and am taking it very tentatively (haven't told anyone yet) but wanted to pop in here to see if pain and cramping was at all normal? I desperately don't want to lose it and want to be able to tell mum at christmas!!

Spaghettinetti · 29/11/2013 11:44

Flymo, pain and cramping is normal. I had crampy period like pains for the first 8 weeks... My sister told me that she also had them- in fact that was the only early pregnancy symptom she encountered (she didn't have any sickness or tiredness). All the best!

thanks spaghetti - it's my first so have no idea! also am worried about telling people, just totally paranoid about all not going well... I've not known anyone who mc'd and it makes me feel like statistically, it's going to be me! awful, I know....

congrats flymo - we both got our bfps this week :-)
Im just taking it all in as have been ttc for ages so its really wonderful but also incredibly nerve wracking too!

I have also been been having similar af like pains - its like AF is just about to start - have cramps in my tummy and legs and I keep thinking that's it AF is sadly here with the usual cramping - every hour I get through is a bonus!

I feel exactly like you and am desperate to tell my friends and family but am worried about the lack of sickness, sore boobs and all standard symptoms of pg but the lovely MN ladies are so reassuring and have told me lack of symptoms seem to be fine so that's good - relief!

Im hoping that my AF cramping symptoms are normal too - apart from those and the terrible insomnia - am officially a walking zombie - those are the only ones Im getting

congrats to us both - I thought I would NEVER in a million years get it so am ecstatic :-)

I feel in exactly the same situation as you as I too haven't done a digi - am really dreading that - when are you testing with this?

hi isit!! I had been posting on the conception boards but everything went quiet - I felt like a thread-killer! congrats to you, too. it's such an odd feeling, I keep thinking about testing over and over again. yesterday my line was a little bit stronger. I'm cd 37 and normally about a 31 or 33 before af kicks in. Every day is a little bit more scary!
I don't have a digi yet, thought I might wait till two weeks late, or at least one and a half! this weekend will be a whole week late which makes me feel better! sorry about your insomnia, hope you get some rest this weekend
