I've got... Piles. Plural. 34 weeks, never had them before.

Been fairly constipated through the pregnancy ( not unusual for me pre-preg either so kind of expected it)

Got one teeny one a few weeks back after a difficult bowel motion and since then been really trying not to get bunged up again but had a week of not much fruit and veg and forgot my daily prune juice a few times and voila- big motion few days back and a few more lovelies have appeared.

V sore, a bit itchy but worst of all stinging even when I wee so am terrified of opening my bowels again which I know will set up a vicious cycle.

Any tips wise ones? Sorry for the information overload- I'm a bit obsessed with my sore bottom atm!

My doctor gave me some Lactulose which is like a syrup that you take to ease constipation. It worked for me and actually tastes ok. :-)

Anusol is fab stuff and stops the stinging really fast, I got mine on prescription it you can buy it.

I had them after the birth of ds and was given some anusol cream that helped.

Things haven't been the same after though and I know I'm going to get them again this time round Sad

Piles are horrible - I got them in pregnancy and get them every now and again since and it's awful. I know what you mean about the wee stinging them. I don't know if it would be possible as you are heavily pregnant but I try leaning forwards when I wee so none of it goes on my poor bot and then dabbing the 'area' with a pre-prepared handful of paper immediately afterwards so none of it gets on your piles. I haven't tried this when pregnant but it works when not.

Really hope you feel better soon.

I'm 32 weeks and now have them too as well as constipation (oh the glamour of being pregnant). I've been using moist toilet wipes because toilet paper is a bit like wiping my arse with a thistle at the minute. I'm most indignant about the whole thing - I've never been constipated, usually quite the opposite, since I have IBS. I was actually in the toilet at work (typical) for about 1.5 hours having a very difficult time getting my bowels to work properly (sorry if tmi). My colleague was knocking on the door to check I hadn't fallen in or anything! Never again will I laugh at DH's "farmers", and I have apologised for being a git to him.

Ipswich I even find the moist toilet wipes too abrasive when my piles are bad - I can relate to the thistle feeling. I have used the plain Huggies baby wipes as they are supposed to be as gentle as just water.

Speaking from bitter, pile-y experience, you can get special Preparation H/anusol toilet wipes which help. First thing I packed in my hospital bag this time round although have now had to fish them out and use them already, and am only 32 weeks

Try witch hazel solution on cotton wool (don't flush cotton wool though) after BM, and whenever they get itchy. Seems to work. And eat lots of lovely tangerines and drink loads of water.

I've always suffered every now and again as got IBS which makes me constipated a lot. Am now 34 weeks and have had them for a while now since being pregnant :(. Have had them a few weeks ago so badly they were thrombosed and could hardly walk so know how you feel. Be careful with preparation h as it has steroids in it which my GP said was a no no. I've got some stuff on prescription so do ask your GP if you need it. I'm petrified about giving birth- just know it's going to turn me inside out ! Tmi I know but such an embarrassing thing to worry about!

I had piles after the birth of my DD (and it's one of the things I'm now not looking forward to now I'm expecting my second). To help with the wee stinging, a wise midwife advised me to take a jug of water and pour over my bits as I went - it dilutes the urine and really helped.

Blondie that's what I'm most concerned about aswell! Definately couldn't have worded it better! I just hope they can fix us...

I've suffered from piles on and off throughout my pregnancy (I'm 39 weeks) but mainly due to the itchyness.

Everytime I have had a bout of soreness and itchyness, I have used sudocrem which has worked a treat!

Is there any actual treatment for piles or am I doomed to a lifetime of symptomatic relief?

I think if the creams haven't worked then the only option would be some sort of surgery to get rid of them.

Thanks all for the replies. I've tried anusol which does give a bit of temp relief..

Ill definitely try the wet wipes and the lactulose- although I'm terrified of the next ''motion"!

Such a horrible pregnancy side effect isn't it- and not one you even get the pleasure of moaning about in public!

Sit on some ice wrapped in a cloth. It reduces them and you can them push them back up if they protrude. Bad ones will go away but will be prone to reoccurring if you let yourself get constipated. You can buy suppositories (glycerine) to help you poo.

I'm not sure if it actually works or its just me thinking it does - but I've been putting sudocrem on after a bm! :') To me it feels like a nappy rash would feel so why not solve it like to solve nappy rash? :) My pot of sudocrem shall be half empty by the time baby comes!
