My friend is due to have twins next week. She has had a horrendous pregnancy and I would like to get her a gift - not child related - although I will be getting a gift for the twins too. Any suggestions?

Earrings! They will fit no matter what size she is after having the baby.

I have just been smelling some lovely soaps and bath butter balls, but they were too expensive and i thought 'i wish someone would buy me these instead of bloody high maintainance flowers'. I like putting my baby to bed and having a nice bath. Helps me unwind.

offer to babysit whilst she has a beauty treatment/hair cut which you buy a voucher for. Or nice perfume/soaps etc. Would agree not flowers as they are too much like hard work after a baby!

Hmmmm, unless she is happy to hand the bambinos over whilst having a facial etc, you might be better with boring old practical help in the early months. I hated anyone touching DS as a newborn.

When any pals have babies I take a freezable, pop-in-the-oven meals once a week. Cottage pie etc. That way you're giving much-needed help, but getting in their faces, IYSWIM.

My favourite present to give is Zita West products. She does something called Down Under Cream, which is like a miracle cream for your bits. Really soothing and lovely. But she's possibly having a caeser (?) so the bath stuff and candles are lovely too.
I also bought a gourmet meal in a box for my bf when she had hers. She was thrilled.

My favourite presents for me were pure lavender oil (for the healing properties) and a homecooked lasagne (for the tummy Grin) Cheap and cheerful but very thoughtful gifts.

Elegant yet cosy new dressing gown. Never in your life do you spend so much time in it.

And homecooked freezer meals, of course.
