I've been getting increasing pain in my pubic bone & hips but today its awful. I had a consultant appointment & brought it up. I've been referred for physio.

In the mean time, what can i do to help myself?
exercise? Rest? Painkillers? Piliates(sp?).

Im not very big yet so Im worried about how i will be in 10 or 15 weeks. I drive alot & very busy as Im self employed so really need to find a way to manage this.

Tia...

With my second I developed PGP at 10 weeks, however I threw money at the situation and saw a decent physio who wasn't afraid to touch me and as a result it was pretty much all gone by 20+ weeks.

Do not clamp your knees together! This causes the ligaments to further shrink which pulls your pelvic girdle out of whack further.

Walk with your handbag across your body so that you're not tilted to one side. Swing your arms side to side.

Sit with your knees apart and feet flat on the floor.

Sit on the car seat and swing in.

The entire aim is to spread weight evenly across your core - so yes, pilates will be excellent for this.

Hobbling around with your knees stuck together is very bad form and christ alone knows why the NHS prescribe this. Along with low-fat diets

I found physio helped massively. Also, try sleeping with a pillow between your knees.

I laughed at low fat diets!!! Consultant said-u look to slim to have PGP... I have an underactive thyroid & Im a size 8, size isn't always relevant!

I recommend an osteopath if you can't wait for physio/have the money. in the mesntime, my osteo suggested cold packs for the pain (wine cooler down front of pants of an evening, the elegance) which really seems to help and has kept me off painkillers. Plus walking slowly.

Yep, an osteo or a chiro can really help some women.

I had it from end of the first trimester with my first three babies. I'm 10.5 weeks now and figure it's any day.. usually around the time my energy comes back because nature likes to laugh in my face!

I know that feeling crispy! Had about a week between end of sickness and start of PGP.

I've got it too already at 17 weeks and have been referred for physio. Shellywelly I think I've seen from your previous threads you've had quite a few babies before, I'm having no 3 and its been earlier each time, and I think this may be a contributing factor (may be wrong, just my experience!) I'm not overweight either, so that is not a factor.

Physio helped me last time, but I didn't need to go til about 24 weeks then. They show you how to move to keep your pelvis stable and I got given a support belt which helped a lot.

The hard part is trying not to do so much when you already have kids to run after. I'm self employed as well, so time off is not really an option with no sick pay. I hope it doesnt get too bad as i have an active job. Also need to work to as near due date as possible because of finances.

Hope the physio helps you!

Ok is this what people refer to as 'stabby fanjo' - extreme pains like stretching or growing pains in the fanny bone? Kinda like trying to do a star jump after getting off a trampoline!? - if you've never done that, please don't try it!!!!

Sorry if I sound like a moron but have been experiencing this and my consultants just laughed at me when I tried to explain it, he said "boys don't get growing pains" she argued with him and no one answered my question.

Is it possible I have pgp then as I'm often in agony with it? Sad

I developed pgp around we week 16. I went to a physio session for pregnant women at my local hospital and they talked a lot about pgp and psd. Tops tips included advice from other posts here, but also showed us how to do pelvic floor exercises properly which I now do everytime I remember and in the car, plus when I get up from being seated, particularly after sport or from the sofa, I engage my core to support the movement.

I am now 23+5 and barely ever notice any discomfort. Which is great as I thought I was going to have to give up spin, but I can now keep going for a few more weeks, hopefully longer :) watch this space.

I developed it at 14 weeks. I bought a fit ball and spent hours sitting on it with my legs apart. My physio said the key was to keep my hips above my knees and that really helped.

I also bought a plastic wedge which I used at the dining table and in the car. I'm actually in the process of getting rid of it so it's free to anyone who wants it - just pm me.

It is horrible but mine disappeared within minutes of giving birth. My HV was worried I was manic because I was so happy - I was ok after six months of PGP, of course I was bloody happy!

As others have said I'd also recommend osteopath. I see one privately onside my NHS physio. I was so bad I could barley walk at 16 or so weeks & felt really low not knowing how I could manage another 24 weeks. After my 1st osteo app I could walk with little pain & started sleeping again.
I was taking so much time off wok with pain that paying for an osteo privately was cheaper for me.
Good luck x

I had something similar with my 3rd pregnancy but more of a really bad back. 4th & 5th pregnancies were fine.

I actually think it'd because i am not in as fit as i was. I used to do alot more exercise but i just don't have time now. I haven't put weight n Im just a bit wobbley!

I will look for a physio as i really can't let this get much worse or i wont be able to function on a day to day basis.
