Moan about my pee covered handbag :(

Hiya,

I am basically having a moan about the one specimen pot you get to pee in for 9 months, and the fact they aren't allowed to empty it, which wouldn't have been so bad had she put the lid on properly (I didn't think to check) so I had a lovely pee covered handbag when I arrived to work!! Ok rant over, although seriously how much can those little pots cost that you can't get new ones???

Agree. It's disgusting! Had the same happen to me today!

That sounds very odd, I get given one every time I go to a midwife appointment ready for the next one. X

Empty it down the toilet after your appointment?

I was so annoyed, mainly cause now everything in my handbag has been covered in my own pee, and I must have looked and smelt like a tramp at work in the loos empting and washing everything in the sinks.

As MrsSR said and also keep it in a zip lock bag in your handbag, free range pee is never a good idea.

Oh no! Sorry OP. My MW just gives me one of the test sticks to pee on, no need for a pot at all, and no problem with my crappy aim. Would they let you do that?

MrsSpencerReid, I will from now on be emptying it but didn't think and was in a rush to get to work.

Oh no! Poor you. Although that is odd that you only get one pot! I had a new one everytime. They disposed of it and gave me a new one plus a spare at every appointment! Is this not normal?

Oven ever been given my pot of wee back?! Is this unusual?

I always got a fresh pot from the MW. Sorry your bag is marinated in eau d'pee. Sad

I am so confused, are you saying your midwife took your sample, tested it and then handed the full pot of cold, old wee back to you to take home?
Why on earth would they do that??!?
Mine tips the urine down the sink and either rinses out the pot and gives it back, or hands me a brand new one...

Ask for a new specimen pot every time. I have worked in the nhs for twenty years and never heard of the pot being reused, they are supposed to be sterile. That is a really disgusting practice by your midwife.

I've never been given a specimen pot. I had to buy mine from Amazon.

And yes, they always give it back to me.

My mw gives me a new pot AND the old pot full of pee back Confused

I stuff them both in DS1's changing bag, and forget them. Nursery handed one back to me the other week - some child had got it out of the bag Blush

I invariably lose them and have to ask for a new one at reception when I get there for appointments. What's the point of giving me them in the appointment? I have tried to politely refuse but she is insistent. It's all very weird. The first time she handed me back a pot of my cold, used pee I was amazed :)

I had one last pregnancy and was told to reuse it as they were short of them at the doctors

I was given a pot to reuse, and was handed it back With wee in, as they were not allowed to tip it in the sink at my doctors'. I just 'forgot' my sample each time and the midwife just gave me a stick to pee on instead.

I have a friend (honestly I do, it was not me!), who was on the way to the airport and had to drop on a specimen to the docs on route. Unfortunately her super organisation got the better off her and she dropped off her perfume in the clear airport bag to the specimen box in the doctors office.

She was left very red faced at the airport when she had to separate her liquids from her hand luggage, and had to explain the mix up to the perplexed security man.

She has not yet lived it down.

Ive had to reuse my pot each time (now on dc3!) the midwife does empty it though Hmm

BlackholesAndRevelations · 02/09/2013 17:24

Ps a few pence each time, multiplied by the number of appointments, multiplied by every woman and her dog who seems to be pregnant at the moment = lots of money for the nhs to cough up, no?

Not to mention the millions of wasted plastic bottles.

I moved house and changed hospitals mid pregnancy. In the first they gave one to reuse but in the second place they looked horrified at the idea of reusing. They even give a slightly larger thing to catch wee with! Not that I've used them as am a pro (now!)

Also I think wee is sterile if heathy but I still wondered if I should be washing that first pot.
