GP or Midwife?

At my last midwife appointment (Tuesday) she advised me that 2 weeks after my 20 week scan i need to visit either her or my GP.

She didn't really explain why this time i get a choice of who i see and what the appointment is for exactly.

Basically just wondered a) what the appointment is for b) why i get a choice thsi time and c) whether it's best to see midwife or GP? ?

Any help would be great - Thanks x

not sure exactly why she said this SC but I know at my GPs I had a choice of 'midwife led care' or 'GP led care'. No difference really but think that 99.9% of people opted for midwife as they are experts when it comes to pregnancy and there's no need to see GP unless something is wrong.

hmmm - didn't get this choice as saw midwife for regular appointments unless things needed prescribing etc...go for midwife - I felt really 'cherished' at my appointments as they took time and asked loads of questions. I did have to go to the GP once and though he was fine he was very rushed ...scrawled me a referral for one of those scrunchy belts for SPD (with a kind of disbelieving look)jand I was out of there in about 2.4 seconds whereas with the m/w we used to chat more, listen to the baby etc

I go to see my Gp. I was told to go see my midwife at 24 weeks which I did but I also went to see my GP that week as she had said to come back to her. When I went to the midwife she said that I should choose which of them I'm going to see as there was no point seeing them both as they both do the same thing, blood pressure check, urine tests, listen to heartbeat etc.

I chose my GP because I know her and she knows me. I can see my GP outwith my working hours as the Midwife only runs a clinic on a day when I work all day and since I'm part time I wasn't comfortable taking a whole hour off and yes I know that I'm entitled to the time off and all that but since I'm only part time I felt better about going in my own time.

Last time I was pregnant I only saw my gp and it was fine. I did think about going to the midwife this time but since I didn't meet the midwife attached to my dr's surgery last time when I went into labour I didn't really see what difference it would make this time.

And to be honest the midwife when I did go to see her was very grumpy, might have been having an off day I know but my Gp is always so lovely I chose her. I do have to go back to the midwife at 34 weeks to go over my birth plan and get blood tests but that's it as far as I know.
