Thank you so much for all the advice! It seems to have calmed down a bit today, but if it gets lots worse I will pop to the drs and ask about medication. Thanks again smile

I'm on omprezole from the gp too. mine was so bad, don't get it at all now, so worth it imo!!

Mine has gone since I gave up drinking milk! My nutritionist advised against the milk actually as it can make things worse,

FreckleyGirlAbroad Sun 21-Jul-13 08:46:17

I found the milk helped at first but after an hour or so it came back worse as the milk turns from alkali to acid in your stomach!! The gaviscon is great instant relief but in the end I had to have the ranitidine from doc as that just stops it happening in the first place - prevention is better than cure if you ask me, as it was turning me into a right grumpy old cow!!

I'm another omeprazole fan smile best acid relief ever !!

miffybun73 Sat 20-Jul-13 20:03:29

Yes to milk also, that really helps.

miffybun73 Sat 20-Jul-13 20:02:46

I had gallons of Gaviscon liquid - Peppermint flavour because I hate aniseed. It really helped.

I was vomiting mine was so bad, I got omeprazole from the gp and it was brilliant I didn't get heartburn/reflux anymore on it.

HeffalumpTheFlump Sat 20-Jul-13 19:35:51

You fantastic women, I had the milk and have just woken up from my nap. Thank you! If it gets worse I shall definitely look into this ranitidine.

Sainsbury's sell their own ranitidine tablets. In a white small box saying indigestion relief on them. Such a brilliant thing in such a small box. Nothing else helped my heartburn until those.

Lydia161290 Sat 20-Jul-13 19:22:59

Milk and chugging down Gaviscon liquid has been a huge help for me. The tablets just don't work

Also try get some milky lollicies like Minimilks.

JamieandtheMagicTorch Sat 20-Jul-13 19:21:40

Ignore me. Rennie is fine

JamieandtheMagicTorch Sat 20-Jul-13 19:20:44

Check whether Rennie is OK to take. I have it in the back of my mind it's not, for some reason.

JamieandtheMagicTorch Sat 20-Jul-13 19:19:21

I guzzled Gaviscon. Milk helps too.

I remember my last trip away pre DC1 was Ruined by me forgetting to bring the Gaviscon

lozza22 Sat 20-Jul-13 19:17:16

Ohno heffalump u jst reminded of the heartburn! It must have been somthing i blocked from my mind with my last pg cos it was so hellish, in fact was prob even worse than the vaginal varicose veins! (TMI)

Like one of the above posts said i used to walk round tesco GLugging gaviscon from the bottle but it never did much!

Maybe ask for ranitidine like someones suggested i know i will do if it recurs this time :-(

Pascha Sat 20-Jul-13 17:57:28

Yeah it can get worse. As baby gets bigger your stomach gets a bit squashed sometimes forcing the acid upwards into your gullet which is what causes the heartburn. All you can do is symptom control really. I used to indescriminately swig the Gaviscon in the end. Some people need tablets called ranitidine which GP can prescribe. They make all the difference.

Gonnabmummy Sat 20-Jul-13 17:52:15

I have it terrible still at 34+3 got ranitidine tablets from doctor really help, with milk and gaviscon! smile

HeffalumpTheFlump Sat 20-Jul-13 17:42:25

Thank you so much. I'm 27+6, is it likely to get worse the closer I get to my due date?

Bippidee Sat 20-Jul-13 17:39:43

If you need to sleep, try using more pillows to prop yourself up so you're not totally flat.

Second milk and gaviscon (liquid!)

Pascha Sat 20-Jul-13 17:38:28

Milk definitely helps. Also chewing gum worked for me because it produces a lot of saliva which slips down the throat and neutralises the acid for a bit. The mintier the better.

Get some gaviscon advance which will help. If that doesn't help the GP can prescribe Ranitidine.

HeffalumpTheFlump Sat 20-Jul-13 17:37:50

Milk, fantastic thanks! Iv never had heartburn or indigestion before.. It's horrible!!

Smerlin Sat 20-Jul-13 17:35:12

Sip a glass of milk- worked for me when Gaviscon failed.

HeffalumpTheFlump Sat 20-Jul-13 17:33:08

The heartburn has arrived. Iv taken two rennie's and its still awful. What do I do?? I am exhausted and desperately need a nap, but the minute I lie down its like I'm either going to throw up or drown in acid. Any tips would be so very gratefully received!!
