Does a very tall broad DH equal a big baby?

My DH is 6.5 and a bit, plus broad. I'm petite and 5.2. Will this equal a big baby? Any experience? Xxx

I agree with badguider that it's the mother's size that determines the baby's weight, not the father's. it might be worth finding out how much you and your siblings weighed at birth (as opposed to your DH and siblings).
I'm 5'7" and slim, but was 10lbs 12oz at birth shock whereas DH was only a petite 8lbs 8oz. Our first DC was just under 10lbs, second DC just over 10lbs.

Oh dear...

FraggleRock77 Fri 19-Jul-13 20:18:51

I have already asked!!! My DH was over 10lb, his brother was over 11lb and his two Sisters were big too. My MiL's lower parts got wrecked! shockX

Nandocushion Fri 19-Jul-13 20:06:18

DH is 5'9" and about 11.5 stone. DS was a hefty 10lb 9oz.

It might be worth asking your MIL what size her babies were? My MIL's babies were all huge.

imademarion Fri 19-Jul-13 19:59:07

My midwife assured me I wouldn't grow big babies (he us 6.5, I am 5 ft).

All of them undiagnosed breech, no space to turn, bloody huge, 10lbs or so each.

ELC obvs.

They all overtook me when they were about 9yo. Stamp your authority early, OP!

No not necessarily. My dsis's dh is v tall and her babies were around the eight/nine pound mark. But they are huge teenagers.

dippywhentired Fri 19-Jul-13 19:51:20

My DH is also 6.5 and I'm only 5.3. DD1 was 8lbs 9oz and DD2 was exactly 8lbs. DD1 was long rather than big all over (and it's the head circumference that matters!)

Secretswitch Fri 19-Jul-13 19:49:06

Both fathers of my children were well over six feet. I am 4'11. My biggest child was 20 inches long and weighed just under 8 lbs.

I don't think there is much of a correlation at birth. I'm 6' and my DH is 6'4, our full term DD was 8lb and just above average length. However as others have mentioned, since she has grown alot (now 99.6 percentile).

My mum is just 5'3" though, so you may end up dwarfed smile x

TheCatIsUpTheDuff Fri 19-Jul-13 14:23:13

DH is 6'3" and I'm 5'5". I thought I was 5'6 until the midwife measured me. :-( At the 20 week scan they gave us 3 measurements - head circumference, tummy circumference and femur length. The first 2 were within a day or two of my dates, the third was 3 weeks ahead. The sonographer said it was a tangle of limbs in there! I don't know how big she'll be, but she's certainly the same shape as her dad!

Chickpea1983 Thu 18-Jul-13 07:47:50

I am 5ft 3, and DH is 6ft 4. Just had our 20 week scan 2 weeks ago, and our little baby is measuring up to be 'below average' size (but perfectly formed), and we continue at the same rate, she will be about 6.5 lb. I was terrified our baby would be massive!!

Snoot Wed 17-Jul-13 23:27:27

To be fair I have an enormous head, I cannot buy hats on the high street. DD has DH's odly shaped head, flat at the back although covered when not bald!

FraggleRock77 Wed 17-Jul-13 22:42:41

My lovely DH has a huge bloody head. He can never find a hat to fit! shockXx

Snoot Wed 17-Jul-13 22:41:02

As Knitted referenced, it's not the weight but the head circumference you've got to worry about. DS was 8lb 12oz, 58cm long (98th centile) but with an average sized head at 3 days early. Born with his hand on his head but with no drugs, tears etc. DD was 7lb 4oz at 10 days early, 48cm but with an average head circumference. Hurt more than DS, I was attached to the gas & air! DH is 6'2" & very broad, I'm 5' 6 3/4" wink. Look to the cranium!

FraggleRock77 Wed 17-Jul-13 22:30:33

Thanks for all the feed back grin

BigBongTheory Wed 17-Jul-13 22:28:46

No. dH is like yours. DD's were rather civilised at about 7.5lb.

Januarymadness Wed 17-Jul-13 21:05:06

Hahaha dh is 5 ft 6 i am 5 3 dd was 9 lb

I weighed under 7lb at birth. Dh was premie and under 2 lb.

These old wives tales mean nowt

BrianButterfield Wed 17-Jul-13 20:52:32

No, DH is tall and quite broad and DS1 was 6lb9oz with skinny little sparrow legs and a small head like his mum!

Jollyb Wed 17-Jul-13 17:23:13

Friend DH 6'4"" and big build. Friend 5'1"

Baby 1. Just over 6lb
Baby 2. 7lb4

rockybalboa Wed 17-Jul-13 17:17:20

Not necessarily. My BIL is v tall and broad and DSis's MIL kept putting the fear of god into my sis about how BIL was a 10lb'er but sis had two 7lb something babies (separately, not two 7lb twins!)

KnittedWaffle Wed 17-Jul-13 17:15:15

Nope. I'm 5'9 and used to be slim before 3DC average build.
DC's dad is 6'2, really broad shouldered and overweight
DD was 6lb7.5; DS1 was 6lb13.5 (and I ate and ate and ate while pregnant with him) and DS2 was 7lb11.

DS2 was average weight, 75th percentile length but 98th percentile head. Probably got that from his dad . . . grin

FraggleRock77 Wed 17-Jul-13 17:14:17

Would be sooo much easier if you could shuffle them round like a little ruck sack bump!!! Xgrin

patchesmcp Wed 17-Jul-13 17:14:10

My DH is 6ft 5" and I'm 5ft 8" Our DS was 9lb 3oz at birth and 1 day late. He is on the 98th centile now and is obviously going to be big like his dad.

DD was a week early and weighed 8lb 6 1/2oz. She's only 9 weeks old and is on the 75th centile currently.
It'll be nice to have a DC who lasts in clothes for longer
grin

DespicableYou Wed 17-Jul-13 17:09:37

I'm taller than you, though, 5ft6 (though only a size 10)

CaptainUndercrackers Wed 17-Jul-13 17:08:41

My DH is 6'4" and was 9lb 4 at birth. My DS1 was 6lb 8 and DS2 was 6lb 10. I'm 5'5" and have a fairly small frame, I think I grew babies that were the right size for me smile.
