Pregnancy

Not wanting to brag or chance my luck but...

I'm currently 38+6 and I'm feeling great! Everyone keeps telling me I don't look/act as if I'm due to give birth in about a week. I don't feel it. It's not even that I feel that 'nesting' instinct, I've not had that. I've generally felt really good for the last month. Other than a bit of heartburn at night I really can't complain about pregnancy...which is what is making me wonder...does an easy pregnancy mean difficult labour? Easy labour? No connection at all?? Just wondering if anyone else has had similar experiences? I've eaten fine, getting acupuncture and massages regularly, swimming and walking a bit each week but I'm also busy with lots of projects so its not as if I'm sitting at home bored. Plenty to get me out of bed and plenty of time to rest when I need it but...will I hit a massive wall or suffer for this later???

I felt exactly the same, at 41+1 I went for a night out and a meal quite happily. I felt totally normal, no complaints full of energy etc. Had a straight forward birth, no complications. I'd happily relive the last 4 months of pregnancy in a heartbeat :) I dont think you'll hit a massive wall, enjoy it!

MY first pregnancy was a dream, followed by an amazingly easy quick (2 hours) labour at 39+5, and a wonderful baby, slept through from day one, who also had no tantrums or problems throughout the toddler phase, potty training took one day, is bright and ahead of his classmates, is goalie for his football team, enjoys everything, and is the most wonderful 7 year old I could ask for :)

No not bragging at all. I actually feel pretty much the same: I was feeling dreadful over the weekend (am 39 weeks today) but having a bit of work to do and a deadline (yesterday) gave me a much needed shot of adrenaline. This pregnancy hasn't been the best but I feel good now the end is nigh!

I'm feeling really well at 24w but tend to keep quiet about it as the usual response is- 'just you wait until xyz happens'. You ladies are giving my faith to hope it will continue!

Aww that's lovely to hear! I had a really easy 1st pregnancy, I Nefertiti suffered sickness or fatigue and had a nice quick 6.5 hour labour and he's a happy healthy 3 year old now, always slept and fed well etc. hope your labour is easy! x

That is all so good to hear and so positive. I think pregnancy gets a bad press, so much worrying and the idea that we should feel awful all the time - no wonder we put it off so long these days! I was convinced I would become a hormonal whale by the stage with flatulence and waddling everywhere but so far so good! Thanks for all the positive messages and lots of luck to all expecting soon!

I was talking to a new mum friend just yesterday and told her that I am 24 weeks and feeling great now, but dreading what's to come.

She said that she felt fine right through hers and that it's really wrong how people presume and expect to feel awful, because not everyone does.

She also said that it's a bit like the awful birth stories people feel necessary to tell you about wen you're pregnant, most births are straightforward and truly wonderful experiences.

I'm learning to not be preconditioned by the negativity associated with pregnancy and birth and just enjoy mine.

I'm glad to hear more positivity here. Smile

I never got terribly big or particularly uncomfortable, got fed up of faint permanent heart burn, but otherwise I didn't mind being PG.

With DS1 I didn't have any nausea or anything. I took to having regular afternoon naps but I'm not sure if I really needed them or if I was just using the pregnancy as an excuse! I was still comfortable & happy when my waters broke at 41+1.

DS2 on the other hand... I'm 35+1 & want him out!

Here's hoping your healthiness continues! I really enjoyed my first pregnancy! Smile

No it's not bragging, every pregnancy is different! I had very easy pregnancies with dd and ds. No morning sickness, feeling well, energetic, full of beans until the end, apart from the odd heartburn and mildish SPD pain with ds. This pregnancy though has been a mini hell from the word go. Suffered terrible MS, was ill for about 6 weeks and felt like crap.

I don't think labour and easy/hard pregnancy are related, but I was induced with dd and had a shitty experience. Had a nice easy birth with ds, he was out in about 4 pushes.

I don't think its bragging either. I've had a very 'easy' pregnancy. It's not come without ups and downs (I've been into triage a couple of times for monitoring and one very early bleed) but overall I've felt pretty good! I think a lot of what's kept me going recently has been that I'm 39 weeks today and worked right up to yesterday. I've had a focus and drive to get things done and haven't let myself laze about (which I know I definitely would have if I'd started mat leave a month ago...). I've had some sleepless nights, heartburn and swollen feet but, again, if that's the only bad things I've gone through it's pretty minimal!

Last 6 weeks of pregnancy were always the easiest for me, too.

It's true, you only really hear about how horrible pregnancy is and I'm sure in many cases that's true, but you might get lucky as well. I'm just 32+6, so time for it to get unfomfortable, but otherwise same here. I haven't had any issues- no morning sickness, no tiredness, no aches or pains. I'm not emotional or forgetful. I sleep fine. Still live my normal life, do sports, travel etc. Wouldn't even know I'm pregnant if it wasn't for the belly.

I know several women who have had lovely pregnancies.

I had a rotten one until 7 months but felt pretty great the last two months (probably linked to the fact I'd stopped working and had lots of naps) and had a relatively easy birth (epidural and episiotomy, but recovery was fine) which was surprisingly quick too.

I'm not looking forward to the next pregnancy though, especially if I get the same level of sickness - coping with that and work and a toddler will not be fun (and is why we're putting off TTC until after our summer holiday Wink)

Eskino - i believed a PMA would help me and am normally very positive - but this pregnancy, much longed for, after a MC, has knocked the stuffing from me - bleeding at first, severe MS until 6 months, now i get it once a week, migraines, fainting (low iron even with iron tablets etc), SPD, now i get rib splintering at night. It has put me off ever having more than one more child in all honesty.

I am so pleased for others who have a great pg - my BF did and she loved every minute of being pg, and can't wait for number two. I am hopeful the next one is better. I just really got annoyed when some people made comments like 'buck up' or 'it's not an illness' etc - but when spent the night vomiting, with a migraine, etc - I would beg to differ. I am just back to my start weight - at 26 weeks (normal weight range). I just wanted to offer sympathy to other women who read that and think that is all that is needed, it really isn't, with the best will in the world, and sometimes people come on here to look for some support, and in my view people rallying round is also a very positive and lovely thing to see, even if it is 'virtual'.

Nicoleaus you have given me hope!
