Wondering - how do celebrity mums stay so slim (not that I'm worried just an observation)

Apart from Kim K - I've noticed - or rather its been brought to my attention - how little weight many of the pregnant ladies in the public eye put on. A friend of mine who I met for coffee and who knows me well posed this question to me. I've had quite bad morning sickness and heartburn this pregnancy (DD2) -but have managed to stay active and eat heathily (tbh - had no choice really as cheese and chocolate have made me gag) and 'despite' this have still put on 2.5 stone; going from 9st 4lbs to 11st 12lbs. I don't put on weight easily (when not pregnant). Hopefully this info has reassured mums worried about weight but the curious in me wonders what the likes of Kate Middleton/Sienna Miller etc eat or do in pg that is do different to the rest of us.

Most of them at the very least have a private nutritionist and personal trainer who create them pregnancy friendly plans.

A lot of them will also have personal chefs too!

And of course stylists creating perfect weight hiding outfits!!

Probably deny themselves everything their body craves.

Combine that with a nutritionist, cook & personal trainer & the time to focus your attentions on your appearance. They're under a lot of pressure & I think it's sad that after a celeb has a baby all the focus is on the mothers weight & not the DC. It's a sad reflection of our society.

They have lots and lots of money and lots and lots of time!

Report
Bodicea · 29/04/2013 18:33

think a lot of them also tend to get them whipped out by c-section at about 37 ish weeks as stomach muscles get wrecked in the last few weeks and they get a tummy tuck at same time which is why they are so slime so quickly after

CareerGirl01 · 29/04/2013 18:35

Hmmm Bodicea my body has defo 'gone to pot' in the last two weeks! Maybe that's why they've never announced the DoC's baby's due date

And I didn't really know who Kim Karsashian was until she announced her pregnancy- now really feel for the abuse she is getting for putting on weight. Okay putting on loads during or being overweight before pregnancy is not ideal - but surely your body does what it does to nurture the baby - mine has.

I'm not sure it's true their babies get whipped out at 37 weeks, but they tend to go into hiding during the last few weeks and first weeks afterwards. I feel sorry for them and it's bizarre the way the ones that just look a teeny bit chubby look out of place.

I'm sure they starve themselves after giving birth (not great for breastfeeding-but then they probably don't do that as it'll ruin the boobs they paid for!)

my mum told me she starved herself after having me and my brother (eating lettuce leaves etc) and lost the weight really quickly -she even seemed proud of it! I was disgusted when I found out. NOT healthy -and why focus on your image when your kids should be your priority in those early days??

Report
ZolaBuddleia · 29/04/2013 19:03

Because for slebs their figures are part of their package, and presumably they want to work afterwards.

I think everybody is different. I am 25 weeks pregnant and have put on 10 pounds so far. I eat healthily and used to run lots before I got pregnant and in my first trimester had so much energy. I tend to have porridge or weetabix for breakfast, lunch a sandwich or soup or whatever I had the night before, dinner is always cooked from scratch. My snacks are yogurt, cheese and crackers, and lots of milk. I do eat sweets but have gone off chocolate and don't really drink anything apart from water and two cups of tea. I sometimes have nuts and have a banana a day just to fill me up! I am constantly hungry so rely on milk and bananas to fill me which really don't have lots of calories in them. I only started to put weight on at 15 weeks and didnt show until 20 weeks but I am short. Models like Kate moss and Lara stone and people like Kate m are taller and have longer bodies so more room for the baby to hide which I think makes a lot of difference. I don't care if I put on 2 or 3 stone as long as my baby is healthy.

I've put on 11 lbs at 24 Weeks...i've been eating everything under the sun including a lot of chocolate that normally I don't actually like! I feel sorry for the pressure...poor old Kate bump is scrutinised every time she's in the papers.

Yes I think I'd put on around 10/11 lbs at 25 weeks. So how I've managed to pack on another stone and then some is obviously down to nature as I've been exercising and eating healthily. Which is my point really...

Remember that the Duchess of Cambridge has been dangerously ill and hospitalised with Hyperemesis - probably not to be advised!!

Agree- everyone is different. And pregnancies can be different! With my first I put on around 1 1/2- 2 stone, with my second, only around 1/2 stone! Probably because I was running around after a toddler.

I also try to eat healthily but sometimes the nausea means my cravings win.

It's the celebs that push themselves too hard to pop back to their original shape that worry me. It sends the wrong message out to other mothers who are already exhausted/stressed and on top of that feel pressure to lose the baby weight asap.

there are people who pop straight back like kate moss, Miranda Kerr, Gizelle etc but they do also have the help of personal trainers, nutritionists etc as said above. Whereas your average person has whatever meal is quickest/easiest to prepare and very little time for exercise classes etc.

A lot of so called celebrities get where they are because they are naturally slim and beautiful so don't have the genetic tendency to pile on the pounds. That coupled with having a career that requires them to look after themselves means they are likely to stay relatively svelte and toned.

I only gained baby, not an ounce extra. I'm a bit pissed off actually as I looked nice with a few curves. I ate like a horse, didn't deny myself anything at all but stayed active. I've had some very catty comments from women who didn't stay slim and seem to assume I starved myself Hmm

For anyone who is worried can I just add that breast feeding is not only the best for your baby but it shrinks down your rather stretched uterus post birth so you get your flat stomach back. Obviously not a reason, but a beneficial side effect.

I've been offered a boot camp freebie - 8 weeks after DD2 is due (early July) - so I guess that's one of the answers - as in what people in the public eye do to get back into shape. I have no intention of taking up the offer, like you worsester I do want to hold on to some of my curves, I actually like the weight I've put on the top of my arms, it's stopped me looking so skinny and a bit more in proportion! The best bit is the weight on my face though, which has taken 10 years off me. The problem with shifting weight after a baby is that it goes from your face; lots of my mummy friends who didn't go on diets - or who didn't need to - still lose weight from their faces first.

One of my bosses went swimming every single day and horse riding at least once a week from about week 4, after she had her 4th. She lost the weight pretty fast, although her natural state is tall and slim. She also had a housekeeper, a nanny and a maternity nurse from day one and extra cover most weekends, so my SAHM sister took offence when my boss commented that she hadn't lost the weight after her third after six months!

DolomitesDonkey · 01/05/2013 10:00

I put on 8kg and it took 11 days to lose it. I had a c-section.

It's quite fucking insulting to be told I probably had a tummy tuck and/or whatever bullshit you've managed to convince yourselves of.

I did not eat every single cake put in front of me during my pregnancy - I ate them in the 20 years previous. I didn't sit on my fat arse immediately for 12 months after my pregnancy whining about how I had a newborn and was incapable of doing anything else.

I assume this thread is about peaches geldof? I thought she looked amazing and happy. Not everyone retires in to a pit of filth when they give birth.

It was reported, so must to rightWink that a lot of celebs ( Catherine Zeta Jones, Katie Price, J Low and the like) go on a strict diet from week 34 of their pregnancy. Planned C section and tummy tuck at 37 wks. Followed by a juice only diet after c sections and mammoth exercise plan once they can move again.

Add this to a barrage of staff and personal help/trainers and I'd be in the best shape of my entire life!

It's simply not real life.

I agree that everyone's different. I'm sure that having a lot of money and time helps, but I'm sure good genes are part of the equation.

I watched with envy as my beautiful friend continued to look slim, beautiful and spot-free throughout her pregnancy, and was back in her pre-pregnancy clothes within a couple of months of giving birth (naturally). The only exercise she did was pregnancy yoga.

Whereas I go to the gym five times a week, swim regularly, eat healthily, drink gallons of water but have put on loads of weight and have terrible skin! Tbh, I am the spitting image of my mother when she was pregnant with me. And, sorry to say, but I was born by CS at 37 weeks and my mother still, 33 years on, complains that she hasn't lost the baby weight yet!

Ps I had never heard of Kim Kardashian before but now I'm really rooting for her. She's obviously a naturally curvy woman, and that's what her body naturally does. It;s hard enough when your body changes for all to see, without your job depending on it as well.

Gertrude that's why I put the thread up really - she seems to be the only famous woman out there who has actually put on weight - and by all accounts is still quite active. cupcake they are probably watching their weight the whole time! Dolomites don't flame me - I'm a slim lady who has always been skinny and keeps being told how small I look. My point is that it does seem there's more pressure than ever on ladies not to put on too much weight - when some of us will. Peaches Geldof appears to be making a good living out of being pregnant - good luck to her.

Sigh.
It's not physically possible to,have a tummy tuck at exactly the same time. Not one that works anyway. Your uterus is still big.

There is a difference between 'putting on weight' and 'being fat'
