Very high HCG at 3 weeks. WTF?!

First day of last period was around 17th of Feb.
I was working way at the time and didn't have sex until 17th of March when I returned home. (After that, DH and I have been at it almost every day but that's too much information!)

No period since to took a blood test on Tuesday : POSITIVE!

Thing is, my hcg levels is 2000. That would be 2000 at three weeks and two days! What is going on?

Sounds like a multiple pg.

Was your Feb Eric's lighter than usual? Because it might be that that was a breakthrough bleed and you are actually more pg than you think - being further along could account for the higher HCG.

(Had that with my DD - I was actually a month further along than I originally thought!)

Eric's = period. God knows what Autocorrect is on about, I've had some really odd ones the last two days...

If your last period was in February, surely you're more like 6 or 7 weeks?

Unfortunately I don't remember exactly how my periods were at this time because it was a nuts time with work and I was all go. But I'm pretty sure it was a normal period because I don't remember noticing they were shorter or lighter than usual.

Well Toby, you would think so wouldn't you.

BUT, thing is, after the Feb 17th period I didn't have sex before the 17th of March. I am sure about that. Does that mean I ovulated late or what ? What is going on?!

What does your dr say?

I live in France and the system is this :

  1. Pee on stick
  2. Go to doctor
  3. Do blood test to confirm - they arrived by post, to my home
  4. Echography

I skipped point number 1.
Point number 4 is booked and won't be till April 30th.

Are there such things as pregnancy tests that tell you your hcg levels? If so, I might do one of those then go and see doctor again to talk about these high levels.

What do you think, Folks?

Presuming you conceived on 17th march you're actually nearly 6 weeks pg (dated from 2 weeks prior to conception). Which makes that a normal level.

Congratulations!

Well, well, well HP. Is that so? Does pregnancy count from 2 weeks prior to conception? Really?! I didn't know

You measure it from first day of last period so this tends to add 2 weeks to how pregnant you actually are. Congrats

Pg is usually dated from the first day of your last period, conception having occurred on day 14 (presumed), but if you're irregular then 2 weeks prior to conception will give you a more accurate date. But yes, always add 2 weeks from conception.

Thank for the info. Seems weird to count my pregnancy from a date when DH wasn't with me! I hope you're right though. Twins would be sweet but would prefer a singleton!

HP is right, you add 2wks onto the pregnancy although not in every country some just count since conception, others from last period. Mine at 5wks was 2200 (3 weeks from conception) and 36600 at 6 weeks (4wks from conception) mines just the one baby and it was considered a normal level. So yours sounds normal. Congratulations xx

In France the weeks aren't added, which explains your confusion. It's also why we always hear that the French consider a pregnancy to last 42 weeks when we expect 40, because of the not adding the weeks. If that makes sense. Congratulations too!

Op in my first pg I had a blood test at 5.5 weeks (English system - so 3.5 weeks after conception) and the hcg came back at nearly 10000!! It was only one, heathly, baby (now toddler). There can be massive variation in what 's 'normal' so don't panic. And congratulations Grin

Confused 😴 went for a scan yesterday 14/10/2022 due to having bad pain found I was pregnant the week before. Got to the scan and they couldn't see anything. All we could see is like 2 things that resembled sacs but they couldn't confirm a pregnancy. Done my bloods again as I had them done Tuesday and they are 1952 had unprotected sex on the 24th September so I'm guessing I'd only be around 3 weeks but isn't that high for 3 weeks? And if I am only 3 weeks would that explain not seeing anything?
