Fake alcohol.

Having a 0% Bavaria lager with dinner as we are having homemade fish and chips and it just doesn't taste right without.

BUT.

It's not making me at all drunk shock and somehow I am disappointed. Suddenly I have remembered that being a bit tipsy is actually quite nice, that pregnancy in the whole is not, and that if only I could get pissed it would all feel much better.

Disclaimer - I have been teetotal in both my pregnancies as I wouldn't take a risk with something so easy to avoid. It would just be nice to be all cosy-drunk on the sofa and stop caring about it all for a while <sigh>

Please don't turn this into a drinking in preg bashing thread. I just miss it and wanted to have a little waah.

What are you wistfully longing for?

Tried a Becks Blue for the first time this weekend and it's delicious! Can't believe it's booze free. Am delighted.

MorganLeFey Mon 01-Apr-13 21:53:00

I have missed the champagne bubbles at big events - alhough a fancy elderflower or st clements in champagne flute sort of worked.

Surprisingly have not found cocktail bars as hard as I thought they might be as usually an interesting array of mocktails!

For no readily apparent reason really fancied Amaretto with coke or cranberry the other day though - perhaps the cold weather...

I am intrigued by people saying alcohol free wines are sweet though - as my wine tooth is definitely on the sweet side so perhaps will give it a go!

Mawgatron Mon 01-Apr-13 21:41:37

Know the feeling. I did three shots of tap water with my friends last night so that I didn't feel left out. It just wasn't the same...

I have tried the alcohol free or v low alcohol wines and they are just too sweet for me. But when the craving for a nice glass gets to be too much I have a quarter of a glass of the real stuff, maybe once every couple of weeks. It kills the craving and I am sure does no harm at all.

glossyflower Mon 01-Apr-13 16:03:19

Alcohol free doesnt taste the same.
On about three occasions in this pregnancy I have had half a lager shandy, half a kopparberg and a small glass of wine with food.
grin they were lovely.

I moved to dealcoholised wine, but that's because there is a half decent one where I live called Edenvale. Comes in red shiraz, white and fizzy. I like the red and the fizz mostly, but have them spritzered anyway with sparkling mineral water just because they're a bit too sweet neat (but I drink all fruit juice watered down too, maybe I'm just strange!)

I don't think you can get it in the UK though.

I quite like the Bavarian Weiz beer in little cans from tesco.

Erdinger or other German weissbier (sp?) is ok - esp with a curry.
Or Brewdog Nanny State (0.5%) really smells like you're drinking a nice beer. Not sure that it's available anywhere except their website and own bars though.
But it won't scratch the itch of wanting to feel like you've drunk alcohol!

ScienceRocks Fri 29-Mar-13 16:34:04

For those who don't drink beer or who fancy some wine, M&S does decent low alcohol bellinis etc. I loved them while pg. I was the queen of mocktails too - my frozen fruit daiquiris were so good, people didn't realise they didn't contain rum!

Squidwoman Fri 29-Mar-13 16:30:14

My dp got me some Becks Blue and I agree - it just mocks me every time I open the fridge. It's alright but just not the same. I too want to have that warm tipsy feeling again....

DaveMccave Fri 29-Mar-13 15:26:31

Second the alcohol free Erdinger wheat beer. It's really good for you, considered a health tonic and drunk by marathon runners abroad. However, you get disapproving looks for drinking it when out. I just drink water now do people know its not alcohol. I know I shouldn't care but I really do!

Becky blue is good, but I bought a box and its lasted ages. You just don't get the same urge. It mocks me just sitting there by the fridge.

greenhill Fri 29-Mar-13 15:21:45

Do you like Schloer? Sainsbury's are doing a buy one get one free offer at the moment. I know it is only grape juice, but it must taste better than alcohol free wine. Sweeter too, if you like that sort of thing.

RugBugs Fri 29-Mar-13 15:00:50

I'm off to Brussels in a fortnight for DPs birthday. I shall spend most of the break sobbing or consuming chocolate.

My Dad's local sells an alcohol free holsten pills that is alright, it still has that funny aftertaste but not as bad as becks/cobra imo.

ReikiMummy Fri 29-Mar-13 13:27:24

Must've been something about yesterday.... was also fancying something alcoholic related.... just a little half a pint...

FoofFighter Fri 29-Mar-13 13:12:29

I quite like the bavarian 0%, has to be super cold though. Kopparberg alco free is very much like the real thing ( I just hate it unfortunately!!)

snickersnacker Fri 29-Mar-13 09:08:30

erdinger alkoholfrei is acceptable...

BelleEtLaBaby Thu 28-Mar-13 22:07:42

Alcohol free wine is horrible. I'm not a big drinker and I don't like to be very drunk. But I do like that slightly tipsy, warm happy level of a couple of glasses of wine or three beers or so. I really dislike being pregnant (hg and other fun stuff) and I wish I could have a couple of glasses of wine to feel tipsy and forget my ails for a while!

Mind you, can't imagine a hangover and hg confused

Lj8893 Thu 28-Mar-13 22:04:04

Alcohol free kopperburg sounds amazing, I didn't know there was such a thing!

Lovecat Thu 28-Mar-13 21:00:58

Alcohol Free Koppaberg here too (I do a lot of driving and socialising so am usually on the alcohol substitutes as there's only so much coke or juice I can drink). I wish it'd been around when I was pregnant.

Becks Blue is ok but if you then happen to have a sip of real beer by mistake you can soooo tell it's nowhere near as nice.

Please don't have Cobra Zero unless you're desperate. It's really awful.

SunshineOutdoors Thu 28-Mar-13 20:49:38

Alcohol free wine is cry inducing.

weebarra Thu 28-Mar-13 20:43:09

Alcohol free koppaberg here. No alcohol beer just doesn't taste right. I do miss a drink though.

RatPants Thu 28-Mar-13 20:43:03

My friend bought me an alcohol free bottle of wine for my baby shower and I burst into tears <hormones>.

It seemed almost mocking. grin

riskit4abiskit Thu 28-Mar-13 20:41:38

I don't even drink that much normally, its like itchy hands when someone says 'don't touch the big red button!'

riskit4abiskit Thu 28-Mar-13 20:40:25

God I love prosecco. I have been trying to fool myself with grape juice as a treat but to no avail.

shelly81 Thu 28-Mar-13 20:21:39

I can't wait to be able to get bloody sloshed lol grin
