Pregnancy

brown spotting and period like pains - 6+2 weeks

Hi, I'm a long time lurker and first time poster. I just wanted to see if anyone had any similar experiences to share.

I'm 6+2 today and for the last 24hrs I've been having very light brown discharge only when I wipe which wouldn't worry me too much as it hasn't worsened but I've also had a constant period type pain (not cramping just a dull slight ache) I've also been needing a wee every 10 mins.

I've spoken to epu and have an early scan booked for thurs pm but it feels a lifetime away, I've had a chemical pregnancy in Dec and a previous mc at 6 weeks which started with the same brown spotting (but I had cramps, fading tests and it quickly turned to red blood that time) so I'm feeling paranoid as it took us nearly 18mth to conceive again.

Does anyone have any experience of brown spotting specifically with cramping as well? Either that went well or didnt, I'd like to be prepared as DH can't be at the scan due to work so I'll be alone. I'm not thinking its going to end well again tbh.

Hi Pink,

I'm 21 weeks but I did have pink spotting and cramps for about 48 hours at around 10 weeks. I was also really worried I was going to miscarry but then I looked it up and this can happen when your uterus expands.
I would still get it checked out but try not to stress yourself out too much hugs

You shouldn't need a wee every 10 minutes. Have you been tested for a uti? Bleeding at 6 weeks doesn't necessarily mean bad news at all.

Thank you Katie thats reassuring to hear and I'm really glad everything has worked out ok for you.

I'm so sorry you're going through the same thing RJM, I will keep my fingers crossed for you, please come back and let me know how you get on won't you??

That had crossed my mind expat thanks, it only started at the same time as the spotting but I've never had a UTI so not sure what to look out for. I'll keep an eye on that.

The bleeding could be from your urethra if you have a uti or kidney infection.

As you're weeing a lot and have a dull ache rather than period pains I'd say it's quite likely. Drink as much cranberry juice as you can and. Can you take a pee sample to your doctor?

Thank you both of you, you've given me some hope!...I'll give my gp a ring tomorrow and I have my first midwife appt on Fri anyway (depending on the scan on thurs of course) so could mention it there. I actually had a yeast infection a couple of weeks ago (after conception but before I knew I was pg) and the nurse told me not to use canesten if there was a chance of being pg, so perhaps it didnt go away properly and has caused something else?? I dont know, but gosh I really hope its something as simple as that.

The spotting has actually stopped at the mo, so thats a good thing too but needing the loo has increased so definitely not right!

Thank you again.

I had exactly the same at exactly the same gestation as you. My MW said it's relatively common at 6-8 weeks as further implantation occurs. I am now 26 weeks and everything is going fine

I have had cramping and a tiny amount of light brown blood and sadly it did end in a MMC.
I always think long and hard about posting on reassurance threads. I want to you to know if it doesn't end well then there are women here who have been through the same thing. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Thanks Cavort that is reassuring, I have read about further implantation/placenta attaching etc around 6 weeks (on my extensive trawl panic read of the internet today!!). Glad to hear all is ok with you now.

No dont worry Accidental, I will be gutted if it all goes wrong again but I am much more realistic this time and its good to know there are others to talk to so thank you.

That's great news!!! I had my scan yesterday and they said all looks ok but couldn't see heartbeat yet so I'm going back in two weeks as it should be easy to see then x

Thank you.
I forgot to say I asked to be checked for a uti and it was clear which I was surprised about. However had increased brown / red tinged spotting today, jelly like stuff and lots of pinching cramps so it feels like a wait and see job still I think. Am praying its just the tail end of it.

The dipstick test they use only picks up 70% of uti's. This has happened to me before then when the sample is sent to the lab the infection shows up.

Report
PinkParsnips · 22/03/2013 20:26

Oh she didnt explain that, thank you. Will see what comes back from the lab then.

That's if they bother sending it to the lab. I was certain I had an infection as been having symptoms for weeks but thr tests kept coming back negative, it got si bad that I wad actually bleeding from my urethra but the sample still came back negative.
The doctor phoned me to ask if seeing as I was pregnant was I sure the blood wasn't coming from my cervix. I assured her I was able to tell the difference. She wasn't convinced but prescribed antibiotics anyway and I'm fine now.
