Coccynx pain - ouch!

My tailbone started really hurting at the weekend. It hasn't gone off, despite lots of sitting on my ball rather than the sofa. When I change position in bed it hurts, getting up off a chair or the sofa hurts. Walking and exercise is fine though. Bottom of my back is a bit achy but that's normal - am 23w4d with twins, healthy otherwise.

It's kind of nagging and strangely numb at the same time. Has anyone else had this? What is it? Will it go away?

I have this - physio said it's just part of my PGP, so not a lot they can do really. You can take paracetamol for the pain (if it helps!!), and I have one of those cushions with the little hole cut out for at work, but it's not much use.

I find it particularly painful when standing from a sitting position so have to be really careful.

Sorry, not much help I'm afraid.

PGP? Noooo.... I thought I was doing really well! Who diagnoses that, GP or midwife?

YY to the standing from a sitting position.

Has physio helped?

I have this too and oh my it hurts!

I had a checkup with the midwife yesterday and as she tried to listen in on the Doppler, I couldn't lay flat for her and asked if I could raise my legs cause it was so painful.

I have days where I can barely walk, then days like today I feel fine running around getting stuff done. I do find I'm wishing the last 5 weeks away so I can sympathise with you suffering so early on :(

Hope it feels better for you soon Smile

well i am not pregnant but I recently broke mine (again) and lying on your side will help (either side) and resting it as much as possible

Snickers, I just thought it was because my bump was growing that I found it easier to lie with my knees bent when I'm on my back - maybe not!

Blimey. Do I need to get a doctor's appointment and ask for a physio referral?

Hope you feel better soon - at least the end is in sight!

Yup, another sign of pgp/spd. The coccyx and pubic bone are connected by the pelvic floor, so I caused a bit of coccyx pain by being a bit too over zealous with my pelvic floor exercises...

If you can afford it, get to an osteopath (experienced treating pregnant women) as soon as you can, rather than waiting for mw/ gp referral to NHS physio (I found the NHS physio relatively useless)

My MW referred me for physio, MW diagnosed then physio confirmed.

MW also gave me a sheet of exercises to try, as well as things like sleeping on your side with pillows between your knees, keeping your knees together when getting in/out of car etc.

Physio gave me some exercises/tips with pelvic floor exercises and a support belt (only really helpful if I'm walking a bit, as it digs in when sitting down), but have said that if they don't relieve it much then crutches are the next step.

Right, to the midwife I go, and to attempt to find an osteo. Thanks for the tips, much appreciated. Hope everyone feels better soon
