Anyone had high blood pressure in early pregnancy?

I'm eight weeks and have just been put on medication to lower my blood pressure. I had high blood pressure with dd but not until about 6 months. Is there anything else I can do to lower it. I'm feeling awful!

I had high blood pressure but from later - 22 weeks - and was eventually hospitalised. I ate loads of bananas (the potassium in them apparently lowers BP) and although no great science behind it also almonds and avacados due to "superfood" qualities. Take it as easy as you can with lots of rest and really try not to stress as that will not help. Good luck.

lucy5, I had high bp at the stage of pregnancy you are at and I was put on medication. I got off the medication as my bp lowered and I am convinced that my bp lowered because I had reflexology on a weekly basis. Do you think you feel awful because of the bp or the medication?
High bp often has no symptoms but medication for hbp can have horrid sude effects and you may need to talk to your consultant and get the medication changed.

Thanks winnie. I havent started taking the medication yet, only prescribed last night. I really like the sound of reflexology will look into it.

If you are experiencing side effects, can you ask the consultant if there is a different medication you can take? I too was diagnosed with high blood pressure at eight weeks and prescribed methyl dopa in increasing doses right up until the birth of ds. It made me feel like a zombie most of the time. I was told that this was known as the safest drug to use for hbp in pregnancy, with other bp medications not so well researched for use by pregnant women.
However, that was five years ago and things may be different now.

lucy - has your BP been confirmed by a 24 hour tape? My BP always goes through the roof when anyone in a white coat comes near me, but it's actually very normal

The first time he took it it was sky highthen an hour later he took it again and it wasnt so bad, still high but not about to peg out on the spot. i'm having it taken everyday for a week, luckily my friend is a retired midwife so she is going to do it for me, which hopefully will knock out white coat syndrome. Thanks for your reply. Smile
