FollowinAlternatives to alcohol...

Following on from the thread about drinking in pregnancy, I'm curious to know what those who still ' fancy a drink' but aren't drinking are drinking.

My DH drinks cobra 0% anyway, but I'm not wanting beer... I'd really love a glass of white wine of an evening. But I'm going for zero alcohol in this pregnancy.

Has anyone found a good alternative? I'm thinking of trying schloer, but it's not going to be there same, is it?!

Does a naice alcohol free wine exist?

First Cape do an alcohol free wine that is tolerable.

I have heard a rumour that waitrose do a range of 0 alcohol wines. Never tried it though.

I had an alcohol free red wine once and it was absolutely rank. Tasted like it had gone off, about 2 weeks ago.

Koppaberg do alcohol free cider. But then, the normal variety tastes like Appletiser already...hmm...

I had the bottlegreen ginger and lemongrass sparkling stuff - have it in a champagne flute with a strawberry and it's actually tasty!

I've been loving Bavaria 0% lager and wit beer. Especially the wit beer - it's the only non-alcoholic beer that doesn't taste weird Grin

Sainbsbury's non alchoholic wine is drinkable. My dad made some non alcoholic sangria from it which was absolutely delicious! Also like ginger beer with mint and tonic water with ice and lemon - can almost kid myself it's a g&t. I much prefer Bavaria to other non alcoholic beers I've tried

Not an alcohol-free wine but James White Cox Apple juice is gorgeous. It's the sweetest, loveliest juice and unlike any other apple juice:

Also, the Asda Extra Special/Tesco Finest grape spritzers are lovely but am not sure if those were just in range for christmas? M&S do a nice fizzy grape juice too.

I got a sparkling pear drink from ikea before Xmas that was lovely.
Not yet found a nice alco free wine.
Found alco free lager better as a shandy than on their own.

Have really enjoyed the non alcoholic fruit ciders like kopparberg and rekordlig.
Not really a fan of the wines and beers but not sure why...
Shloer was better than I remember and quite enjoyed it when someone brought some round the other day.
Lots of nice fruity drinks are required to be bought for me if other half or friends are boozing - I sometime end up with a more expensive drink than them Wink

I quite like elderflower cordial with fizzy water, ice and a slice of lemon. It's sort of white wine spritzer-y, especially if you have it in a wine glass!

I find its not what's in the glass but the glass itself for me, so a nice appletize or similar in a wine glass and i don't feel i am missing out.

Second vote for erdinger non alcoholic, it's really good. Don't really like any of the 0% lagers I've tried.

I agree with talulah I find if the drink's in a wine glass or flute & I sip it, it becomes more of a "treat". I like the bottle green elder flower or just plain old ginger ale with a wedge of lime.

Oooh, I have one of the ikea pear drinks in the cupboard :)

Thanks for all your suggestions! I think I might try tonic without gin (sob), and I might order one of each of the suggestions in my next supermarket delivery!

I loved Rochesters Ginger drink, it is really gingery and very warming.

I like cocktail mixers but without the alcohol added, José cuervo do an alcohol free margharita that your supposed to add tequila to, but it tastes just a good without.
I had a bottle of non-alcoholic wine from the co-op and it was really watery tasting and not nice :(

I have schloer or appletizer in a wine glass. It's more nursing a wine glass than the taste that I miss!

I second the elderflower. Waitrose also do a lovely own brand elderflower presse -it's yummy

I second howcomes with Rochester Ginger. One part that to two parts sparkling water made a pretty good fake Crabbies I thought!

Also have a chat with an independent store if you can. There's a great wine shop in the town next to ours and the owner was great about pointing out what she stocked and getting extras in. Had a lovely guilt free cab sav from her Grin

GinandSlimline thanks to a similar thread at Christmas I discovered tonic water and angostura bitters. It is so good with ice and lemon - I almost forget its not gin.
Clearly this isn't for the total abstainers as it is alcohol. But you only use a few drops so it's my current weekend treat.
