Hi all,

I just wondered if any of you could recommend a good compact, light weight all terrain pram that was usable from birth?

Were expecting our first baby in Summer and complete clueless!!

I just looked at the city jogger. Felt light but can handle off road v easy to fold, can get carry cot and car seat to fit.

Mountain buggy fantastic but not cheap. If you plan more than one should be worth it though. Heard good things about the city jogger too

Depends on what you want to use it for.
Things to think about:

1) If you have a car, how easy it is to fold and how compact when folded
2) Are you likely to use buses - if so, the more compact ones and ones with 3 wheels fit better
3) Where will it be stored
4) How easily does it fit through your front door
5) How heavy is it
6) How easily can it be pushed with one hand - you might want to make a phone call, drink tea/coffee/water and if you have another, you want to be able to push the pram whilst holding the hand of a toddler
7) What sort of off road - if you are talking proper rough stuff you want big wheels all round with lockable swivel wheels at the front

I like the nipper 360 - I could push the double with a baby and toddler in, whilst carrying another toddler in a sling and manage buses as well. My sister loved her mountain buggy and my cousin loved the double she had for her twins so much that she bought a single for her subsequent babies.

baby jogger city mini gt. best and most used thing i have bought my child (unlike the mountain of useless crap that didn't live up to there expectations and hardly get used...)

Cyclecamper in answer to your points we have a big estate car so that isnt an issue but the house is (narrow hallway and no where to really store it) so it will probably live in the car. The one hand thing is a very big point for us as we have a lively Labrador which I may have to keep hold of at the same time! Hence why we want a good off roader too as I will be walking him everyday and will have to tackle thick grass, muddy tracks etc.

I'd definitely go for a nipper 360 or mountain buggy then. You don't want small wheels on muddy tracks! The nipper is pretty light. You will probably want a model with inflatable tyres, make sure that they are a common size - most are (I think) 12 and a half inches, which is a common size for kids bikes and can be replaced easily, but occasionally (phil and teds vibe early models for example) can be an odd size - I walk a lot and wore through 2 pairs of rear tyres on the vibe , which had to be ordered from P&T in New Zealand at the time, although I think they are available here now, they still have a limited choice.

Inflatable tyres are a pain if you plan to go off road along tracks as you will get endless punctures. Most all terrain have solid for this reason.

I also looked at the baby jogger city mini but the double front wheel would have been awkward on gravel.

I have a baby jogger mini city gt and love it. I walk all over with it, fields, muddy tracks, through snow. And easy to manoeuvre in the supermarket. Best thing I bought.

I've just bought the baby jogger city mini & love it - it's lightweight easy to fold/unfold & can b used from birth!

Another person with the Baby Jogger City Mini here You can use it from birth as it can lie almost flat, but if you prefer a carrycot for extra protection and comfort when the baby is tiny, you can pick up a barely used one very cheaply on eBay, so lots of options.

Nipper 360 - used to have James slalom pro - very expensive and not a patch on nipper 360. I nipper wih Phil and tds cocoon when they were really small so could bring them in asleep.

Mountain buggy here ( single and double) both bought got a good price from eBay. Spares easy to get hold off and even the double is manoeuvrable with 1 hand

Dorsetlass I really like the look (and price!) of the nipper 360 but was wondering what to do with newborn - will any of the phil and teds cocoons fit it do you know?

Out and about do a baby head hugger - I also borrowed a friends phil and teds cocoon - they slot perfectly into the 360 when it is laid flat. My second as only in the cocoon for about 6 weeks as he was so long though! they do make it easier for lifting sleeping babies out. Also I saw a friend today who has they new 360 - now takes adapters for the maxi cosi car seat if thats any good for you. Also looking at above posts you can get stuff called 'green slime' to go in tyres to prevent punctures. Got it but never used it. Hope that helps!

Just read my first post - sorry for the typos!!! Cant do this properly from an Iphone! It was the Jane I had not the James (no idea what that is!). We also have a large lab (quite often two) and no problems maneuvering) X

Lots of good suggestions above. I have an uppababy vista and its fab, we do lots of dog walking with it although its not good in mud as the front wheels block up so if you're thinking of doing lots of very muddy walks I'd get something with 3 wheels like the nipper 360. I have a cheap second hand 3 wheeler with a fixed front wheel and its amazing in snow and mud.

Having said that the one thing I hate about the 3 wheeler is not being able to see Ds and talk to him. I wouldn't have a pram from birth where you can't see lo.

We have a Mutsy 4Rider and i've commuted with it since DD was 2 1/2 weeks old. The carry cot is also suitable for using as a moses basket.
