Spotting...what to do??

I had a tiny bit of brown spotting the day I had my BFP (3 weeks ago). Had about the same again last w/e after sex. Now 7 weeks. More brown spotting tonight after 3 days clear (more than before). No cramps. Don't know what it means. Maybe something, maybe nothing.
Can't phone MW except on Tuesdays! Trying not to panic, can't do anything about it anyway. Wish I knew what was going on. Anyone ever had anything like this in their pregnancies?

38 and first pregnancy. HELP!!

if its brown and only spotting then generally you don't need to worry. If it continues give your midwife a ring.

Hi,

I would call your GP and ask where your hospital's ante-natal day assesment/early pregnancy unit will be and go there and get it checked out. You will only worry yourself to death if you don't. I think they are usually open in the mornings.

It happened to me in my first pregnancy and I went to have a healthy baby girl so I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Your GP will be able to book you in for an early scan if they think it necessary. Go and see tham or you will only worry!

I had this with my first pregnancy, which turned out to be a missed miscarriage. I would get it checked at your local EPU, as sometimes this can happen with a blighted ovum. You get some bleeding, then it stops and starts again.

Have you had pregnancy symptoms? if you have and you still have them, this is a good sign.

I also had some spotting when pregnant with my dd, just once, at 8 weeks, at the exact time my 2nd period would have been due, and she is 100% perfect! Pregnancy was completely straightforward.

Good Luck, hope all is well.

Had this with last two pregnancies - brown discharge (quite grim) at around 6 weeks. Second time round it actually went pinky/red too which scared the living daylights out of me. Lasted a week then completely cleared up. Had a scan and all is well. Was told 1 in 3 women bleed/spot in pregnancy...quite often around the 6/7 week mark.

Thanks all for all your replies. Makes me feel a bit less worried. I think I'll see what it's like in the morning and then maybe go to the EPU at the weekend if there's any more.

Still got all the pg symptoms - tiredness, sore boobs, need to wee all the time and funny taste in mouth, so fingers crossed.

Had this with DS, 3 bleeds in the first 3 months. Worried me silly but a visit to a very reassuring GP did the trick and a scan at the EPU confirmed all was ok.
Good luck and try not to worry (easier said than done, I know)

I had this with ds1 and ds2. I had a pregnancy in between with no bleeding at all, but it ended in miscarriage (diagnosed by scan - never any bleeding). Some women do just bleed in pregnancy. But I always went to EPU because your piece of mind is so important.

Could be something like cervical erosion. I had this when pregnant with my DS. GP said it can be due to changes in your cervix etc during pregnancy.

please try not to panic. i had spotting w/BOTH girls and delivered healthy, full-term babies.

if it freaks you out, why not ring NHS24 and see if you can't get an emergency appointment?

sometimes, too, the cervix becomes very vascularised and sex can cause a little bleeding.

keep us posted! congratulations.

Sorry, meant to add that it didn't cause any problems -just had brown spotting every few weeks or so during pregnancy and no problems with DS. Hasn't happened again since.

I had spotting with my first pregnancy from 6 weeks until 9 weeks. Turns out some of my womb lining had come out of the cervix. Pretty common apparantly but what made it worse was that I was in Las Vegas on my honeymoon when it started and spent two weeks worried to death that I was losing the baby. Everything else fine and gave birth to healthy ds 3 years ago. Now pregnant again (23 weeks) and had some spotting early again but this time was like you have mentioned, brown not pink or red. MW said that it was old blood and probably came out around the time that my period would have started. Checked my dates and she was right. Hasn't happened since.

I am 6 months pregnant with my first baby and I have been having brown and pink spotting all the way through.

It is not uncommon but not normal, my midwife says "As long as its not fresh red blood then don't worry"

I have also had fresh red blood where I was sent up to the hospital for a check up and they couldn't find anything, they just put it down to ligaments stretching!

I know is hard to not worry but you get used to it!!!

I am currently 18 weeks pregnant,
At the beginning I had spotting once a week for the first 8 weeks. I had a scan at 6 weeks and showed my fetus with a heart beat. to the left of the baby the scan showed what they called an extra chrioic heamorrhage (ech) its bleeding within the uterus but outside of the gestational sac they said it doesn't affect the pregnancy and is quite common.
I did spot agan at 12weeks and the scan showed low lying placenta with can cause spotting.

Many women experience spotting, as others have said try to relax and contact your gp to see if they can refer you to the epu. The epu have been really good for me in this pregnancy as I have had to visit them on a few occasions and they have been very supportive.

Hope all is well for you, good luck Smile xx
