I am 5ft 11 and weigh about 18st 9lbs. I am 21 weeks tomorrow and have not put on any weight on the scales( I lost about half a stone at start of pregnancydue to feeling sick- so back to weight I was when I discovered I ws preg) Has anyone else found they have not put on much weight??

I have not been eating the most healthy- certainly not as healthy as normal- can't stomach veg!!! Do you think I should start watching what i eat- wil I start to pile on the pounds now do you think???

I was heavier than you when I became pregnant. Like you I lost weight with sickness, but I was very careful about what I ate because of gestational diabetes, and only gained weight in the last two weeks. I would say that now is not the time to start to try and lose weight, if that's what you mean by watching what you eat, but for your own sake and that of the baby it would be a good idea to try to eat as well as you can. You will only start to pile on the pounds if you eat too much - if you eat sensibly you shouldn't pile on the pounds too badly!

hi ronniemummy and milesysgirl. I'm 37 weeks pregnant and due to have an elective section in 11 days. I am about the same size as you ronniemummy. I actually lost the best part of 1 1/2 stones early on in pregnancy with hyperemesis, have slowly been regaining it bit by bit but still weigh less than my booking appointment (hoorah!). I still don't really look pregnant unless you know me, I've just lost weight from the sides and I'm all out front but I'm still wearing all my old clothes (with the exception of my skinny jeans - skinny, who am I trying to kid?!). I was the same last time when I had dd 3 1/2 years ago. I still kind of have two tummies, but just at the saggy side bits, the front has now finally merged to one!!

you might well find that you don't gain too much weight in pregnancy. I just cant eat as much at meal times, so I manage not to put on too much even though I'm still a chocoholic!

FWIW though, I was so proud of myself last time for not gaining weight and then I sat on the sofa breastfeeding for a few months and put it all back on again! breastfeeding makes you so hungry you have to be really disciplined to make your snacks healthy then particularly if you have a section and have reduced mobility for a while. I'm determined to stock up on carrott sticks and fruit for when I'm starving and feeding this time so I don't put it all on again! famous last words!

Hi, another big girl here--only just in the overweight range when I got pg but confidently expect to have at least 3st to lose when I give birth in late July. I'll be going back to Slimming World v soon to make sure I don't get even bigger.

I started SW in Januray when I was 4 stone overweight. I have since lost a stone, but am now nearly 18 weeks pg! I still go to meetings every weeks, as I don't want to balloon as I did in my last pregnancy. I am just going to concentrate of eating as healthily as poss and keeping as active as I can. Now is certainly not the time to think about losing weight, but more about damage limitation!!!!!!!! FWIW, I put most of my weight on when bfing, as I used it as an ecuse to eat like a horse. I was also fairly inactive (having a CS didn't help!) but I think if you just make sure you get out and about ecah day, it won't be too much of a problem.

Just eat healthily and keep as active as possible. Boring advice I know, but the best around, IMHO!!!!!!

I am a big girl and didnt put on any weight at all when pregnant - ended up 2 stones thinner afterwards. Apparently this is fairly common in big girls so you may be lucky just try and make sure that what you do eat has some nuritional value - if you cant stomach veg would you manage blended soup etc?

Hi Lucy5 there's a really good website I used the last time I was pregnant called \link{www.budgetbumps.co.uk\BudgetBumps} they do new and 2nd hand stuff and did have some decent stuff in larger sizes.

lucy 5, try and hold out a bit before buying maternity stuff if you can, you might find that you don't need it as you are less likely to put weight on in pregnancy of you are bigger to start with. I haven't bought anything at all and I'm having the baby next week! Even those who aren't as sick as I was and dont lose weight often find that just going up one size in more elasticy clothing is fine, the main probem is the length of tops to cover up a bit.

There was a thread on here a month or so ago where people recommended more websites for larger mums to be clothing so it might be worth doing a search under plus size maternity clothing on the archive here and on google. Good luck.

Hi
I am /was a larger mummy. I was around your weight and am 5ft7 when having ds and about 20stone when I had dd who is now 3.5mths. With DS when I had him I hadnt put on that much think it was about a stone but lost it quite quickly afterwards. With DD I didnt put any weight on at all as even though I put on baby weight I wasnt eating very well. I know weigh around 19stone again and am going down. I never had gestational diabetes with either of my kids and had normal deliveries[apart from being induced with them both].
Bump never really showed to other people[think they were scared to ask incase I was just fatter again..lol] Both my kids were normal sizes
DS was 9lb 1 oz at 15 days over and DD was 6lb 14ozs on due date. I was told DD would be at least 10lb due to how big I was so they were very wrong.

Maternity clothes I used ebay to buy plus size stuff from usa..quite cheap for jeans worked out about £17 for brand new ones. Also evans clothes with elastic waists..absolute god send..lol

Hi. I was 16 stone 3 years ago when I had my ds. I actually lost 2 stone during the pregnancy but still had to buy maternity clothes (mainly for my expanding bump). I am now 22 weeks pregnant with my second and a similar weight. I have found my normal clothes too tight around the waist but maternity size 20 clothes are brilliant. Not many shops do them but I have got mainly all mine from Next, Dorothy Perkins and George as Asda. Plenty of room in them and cut generously everywhere else. I have also bought quite a few second hand items off ebay.

Hi all, I'm also a fatty too (lol Lucy5). Its not the weight that worries me its things like getting varicose veins due to me being overweight as my mom and my nan both have them and I've been lucky so far. I'm 5ft 6 and weighed 14st10 when got pg so Trace2 tell your GP to go swing hun! I have so far put on 12 pounds but this is mainly because I'm a chocoholic and didnt get any morning sickness. I'm 24 weeks and am hoping I wont put more than 2 stone on in total. I swim twice a week to keep fit and am going to until I'm ready to drop.
Its nice to know I'm not alone, and that us bigger girlies can have normal healthy births and babies. I've always said my child bearing hips will come in useful one day! Take care x

Trace2, I put on around 1nhalf stone before I got pg. They tell you to stop drinking, smoking and lose weight in order to conceive but the minute I relaxed after 4 months of trying 'too hard' it just happened. I think they must think that becuase we are bigger girls we are going to put excessive amounts of weight on but its normally the other way round ifyswim. Dont let it worry you as that will not help you ttc. Good luck! Hope to hear some good news soon! Smile
