In my last pregnancy, I chomped on remegel (chewy but chalky ones) to get rid of that nasty heartburn. Now it seems though you can't get it in the UK anymore without pay silly prices on eBay. So what else would you guys recommend. Currently 18 weeks and already suffering with it. Gaviscon doesn't help. Rennie works for about five minutes. Please let me know if there is a secret product out there that works......
I second a teaspoon of bicarb mixed into a glass of water. Tastes like fish water but works immediately.
Omeprazole on prescription - my heartburn lasted until the day after DD was born and it's thoroughly miserable; you don't have to live with it all day everyday!

You know you can get Gaviscon prescribed, so you wouldn't have to pay for it with your maternity exemption (at least this was the case when I was pregnant 2 years ago). I think you can ask your midwife to prescribe, otherwise GP.

The tesco heartburn stuff is just as good as Gaviscon and is £4 something for a big bottle, as opposed to £9? for Gaviscon. I know as I'm downing the stuff like a dockside floozy at the moment.

Milk here too! I was really suffering a week ago, specially with a bad cold, the heartburn was more painful than the chest infection.
A small glass of cold milk after every meal really helped. Extra pillows too.

Frijj milkshakes. Yummy and worked really well for at least a few hours. Even better really cold out the fridge.
Can't claim I've had it really bad but have managed to reduce mine by sitting up after meals (rather than slumping/lying on sofa) and having a cup of tea/ banana milkshake/ yoghurt within 30 mins of eating. Also have an extra pillow at night.
A mug of Horlicks before bed, then if needed in the middle of the night Gaviscon aniseed liquid swigged from the bottle,
During the day, eating little and often so tummy is never empty,
Lots of milky/dairy stuff as snacks, yoghurts, etc....

Well I just sit upright, which is hard when you're pretty much asleep, but it works quickest for me.
I haven't bothered with anything else this time - it was worse last time, which is odd.
Used to like those chalky sweets like tums etc. Also try using an extra pillow at night.

Thanks all for replies. Have purchased some gaviscon but sods law haven't had any heartburn today
If you're desperate, a small glass of water with a teaspoon of bicarb and a tablespoon of lemon juice. Works wonders for me, lasts a good few hours, just tastes absolutely grim...........
