Head Lice!

Been scratching a few days, put it down to using the kids shampoo as I'd run out of mine but just found a louse

I have bum length hair and it's near impossible to get rid of them (I'll wet comb for 4 months at every wash) and as I now have two little girls in education I can't really afford to take that long and it's not nice to be constantly itching for that long, especially when pregnant and going to be in and out of hospital for the rest of the year. So really I need to use everything I can hit them with, but what's safe in pregnancy?

join the club, I used Asdas herbal stuff and wet combing, I think I have got them all, but I am still SO itchy!!

I am off to have a large amount of my hair cut off tomorrow!! DS has only been in school 2 weeks, horrible.

I said to Mum the other day if the girls get them they're moving in with her until they're gone because I can't afford to get them and now it seems it's too late! I can't bear the thought of the rest of pregnancy (from my previous history I'm due in January sometime) with head lice. I can't see it going down well in hospital either.

are you not suppose to use head lice stuff pregnant then? It didnt even occur to me tbh, I only used the herbal one because thats what DH got in error (probably coz it was cheap)

I don't know, that's why I decided to post. It's chemicals so it's something I wasn't sure of.

I have one crawling around my hairline, I'm normally good at catching them when I can feel them that well but I keep missing!

Someone on another thread suggested using listerine mouthwash the orange/original one. Soak your head in it and leave it. Can't see why this couldn't be done when your pg. good luck.

You'd be best off asking a pharmacist about what is safe during pregnancy. As so may nits are resistant these days, then the pesticide based ones may not work anyhow. The smothering ones may well be OK, but I don't know for sure.

I also got Headlice.

I have treated DD and use Vosene on her. I treated mine and also use DD's Vosene but I still cant get rid. I also do the wet comb every night.

DD is clear it is just me :(

I don't think I have any - I have no eggs and no signs - except I'm itching, itching - dh thinks it's from when I did but urgh!

The herbal stuff was smothering.

Well I've just had most of my hair chopped off! Nit having this during the early school years.

i dont know what its called but boots do a really good one which is safe to use in pregnancy it is like oil. really difficult to wash out but it got rid of my daughters a treat, she has thick really long hair. also iv been using vosene nit repelent shampoo since the last time she had them in january and she has not (fingers crossed, touch wood) had them again since then despite her close friend having over 40 in hers last week. i have to check her hair every 2 days there quite bad at her school

Found DD was infested today. Smothered her in conditioner, used the Nitty Gritty comb, then rinsed. Then used my wet to straight straighteners to fry any little feckers left.

Went over my hair with the comb - my hair is ruined! My hair is almost afro and a lot of the hairs don't actually fit in the fine toothed combs. Have straightened my hair on the hottest setting to make sure I am clear.

Straightening is safe in pregnancy, and I know of nothing that could survive 230 degree heat :o

Nits hate teatree! You can get some stuff which is safe during pregnancy over the internet or in boots or superdrug!

I've been off for awhile as I've been really poorly - not even turned my laptop on in over a week - not been great when I've barely been awake, except to scratch! I got a nitty gritty comb on prescription and bought some of the treatment too. I'm sure it's ruined my hair, either that or I'm going bald because when I was rinsing the conditioner out of my hair I grabbed it all up and thought I must be missing some because it felt so thin, but it was all there

I feel a lot better now but going to use the treatment when I'm able to breathe properly again to make sure they're all gone.

How do you use tea-tree to treat them? I have a big bottle that I use for my baby wipes. Nitty Gritty also do a repellant spray which is aromatherapy based, they say it masks the smell of person to the lice, can't be too hard to make one up yourself, anyone know what's in it?
