Boys names help (sorry for another boring post!)

Sorry to be a bore, but I could really use some advice on choosing Boy's names. Hubby and I really like names that are traditional but a little bit unusual, something that can be changed / nicknamed if they so desire and nothing too chavvy. Our shortlist is:

Theodore (nn Theo or Ted). Love Theo and Ted, but not actually sure I really like Theodore - but Theo on its own seems a bit too informal?

Edwin (nn Ted / Ed). We quite like this, but have got quite a few negative comments. Is it too old man ish?

Jolyon (pronouned Jo-le-on), (nn Joe or Jon). I really like this but am concerned it is a bit girly and hubby not keen!

Haydn - I really like this, hubby not keen and is it becoming very popular?

Henry - I like but is it too common?

Zachary (nn Zac) again too common?

Also Like Eliott but feel that it is too similar to DD1 - Eloise.

Thanks for your help, and please feel free to suggest others.

I like Haydn a lot, goes with Eloise nicely too.
Not keen on your others, but that's just me! Smile

Haydn is the best definitely! I also like Zachary and I dont think any of them are too common. Good luck. Smile

Hi there,
my husband and I are both teachers and have had a nightmare deciding on the name of our prospective daughter (due in July). As for boys names - I had loads of possibles for our first - Christian (which got the vote), Hamish (I'm Scottish and hubby's called James). Out of the choices you've got, and looking at the secondary school kids we teach, Jolyon would prob have a hard time at school, but I don't know what it means! Edwin (was that a choice) sounds a bit old fashioned. Hadyn is a bit chavvy. I personally like Theo and Zac - of which I've only ever taught one Theo (and no Zac's), but I do know a Zac - I think it's becoming a bit more popular because there seem to be a few 'Isaac's' around - but not many Zachary's. It has to be up to you two though and I think you know which one when they're born - don't you!?!

My favourites are Ted and Theo. I've known quite a few Zac/Zack/Zachs and there are lots of Henrys (should that be Henries?). Not so keen on the others.

My advice would be to keep your current list as a short list, then wait till the baby is born and see how you feel then. My husband and I had picked out a boy and girl name before the birth and told family/friends. However, when the baby arrived we didn't think he looked like a 'Thomas' and had to start all over again! It took a good two days of trawling back through baby name books to settle on an alternative!

Of yours, I like Henry - very stylish, Harry a nice shortening but it is just so common at present...same with Zac.

I love Theo. He could be Theo I think, I usually hate shortenings as names but this sounds enough to me.

I also like Jolyon, because it's nice and formal for when he's a professional earning millions (!) but also can be Jo, Jon or my current fave, Jonny.

out of those i like Theo and Zac best.

can i suggest Noah.........just because i'm quite taken with it at the moment. i know it can't be shortened but i just like it as a name!

I like Ted/Ed/Teddy....am thinking of this for DS2. We were thinking of it being Edward then shortening it. I like the name Edward...shame about the prince.

Jaydn is a good alternative to haydn. Not sure if its spelt jaiden ir jaydn or jayden
