Has anybody had ECH in their pregnancy?

Extra chrionic Haemorrage (sp?) its bleeding within the uterus but away from the gestational sac.
Just wondered what your experiences of it was,
I am 12.4 weeks pregant and was diagnosed with this at 6.5weeks due to spotting.I have had no spotting for a month and experienced mild spotting again last week, scan showed no cause for bleeding and was told it could be the tail end of it.
maybe TMI: This morning I woke up with red blood and passed 3 small clots and have had cramping since, bleeding has stopped. I am having another scan in the morning to check things and was told t could still be the ECH working its way out.
I have never heard of ECH before

Hi
I think you mean sub-chorionic bleeding / sub-chorionic haemmorhage (can't spell it either!)?

I've been having a threatened miscarriage for the past 4.5 weeks and have a subamnionic haemmorhage amongst other things. I have posted a thread entittled 'Help please - threatened miscarriage for past 4 weeks' ( In it I accidently typed sub-chorionic rather than sub-amnionic). There's quite a bit on the net related to sub-chorionic bleeds - its the sub-amnionic which are much rarer. It seems small chorionic bleed are quite common and generally have a good outcome.
This website has some clear diagrams which might be helpful and a starting point for your research: www.ajronline.org/cgi/content/full/176/3/607

I too had spotting at 6 weeks and then nothing til 12+3 weeks. I am now 17 weeks, still with varaible loss and the baby is still developing and growing at present.

Hopefully as your last scan was ok, your haemorrhage site was probably small things will settle down for you.

Take care, all the best
Ruth

Thanks so much for the reply ruth,
They called it a extra chrionic haemorrhage at the hosp, but probably is the same thing, I will look at the website you have given , and will type sub into google and see what it comes up with.

I'm sorry that your having a tough time also and good luck with everything, I hope everything turns out good for you.

Thanks for your reply nunney19, I had no further bleeding and my daughter now 2 years was born perfectly healthy in sept 2006.

I am currently 34 weeks pregnant and again I had ECH in the first trimester, not as much bleeding this time.

Good luck with your pregnancy, hope all goes well for you too.

Hi

I'm 6+2 (based on scan) and have a sub chorionic bleed. I have been told it is just outside the sac and should clear up on its own. It's pretty scary as we were initially told it was a m/c.

Any advice????

I had a subchorionic heamatoma measuring about 2cm in diameter early this pregnancy.

I had a lot of spotting and two very heavy bleeds at 10 and 13 weeks, the second with clots.

After the second bleed, the spotting and bleeding stopped completely and there was no heamatoma to see on scans any more.

As long as they are small and not under the placenta they usually aren't a problem. Bloody scary though.

Im 9 weeks and just had my 2nd ECH . So scary on both occassions as I lost so much blood (bright red) and huge clots. After today's scan I know the baby is OK. My ECH is 3.5 mm and apparently not in a place that will harm the baby at the moment but to me that's not 100% positive. The midwife said I'm high risk of miscarriage now and that I just have to wait and see what happens. I'm still in cramping stages and occasionally losing a bit of blood but my scan showed that there is still blood there so I'm now expecting more to come away at anytime....
Im 41 so also my age does nt help....
The comments above are reasurring but I'd like to hear more stories. Especially about how to cope when it happens . On both occasions iv been out and not had pads spare clothes or home comforts. I'm so nervous but on a positive my baby is okay atm
Xx

I too have just been told I have a ECH it wasn’t explained very well at my early scan at 6 weeks, I’m nearly 7 weeks and have just started with light spotting again, is this normal with an ECH?? I’m so glad I found this thread!

@41mum @Curiousnessem ladies please don't worry too much. I've literally just had diagnosis of ECH and all was fine in my case.
13+2 and had a bright red bleed early hours friday morning (no cramping or pain), continued dark red/brown spotting over the weekend. Had no prior spotting to this and nothing picked up at 12 week scan so was very scary.
Called EPU on the friday morning and brought in for scan sunday morning. They diagnosed and advised it was nothing to be worried about - totally separate from baby and right at the top of my uterus. Although ECH sac looked empty there was a possibility of continued spotting or that my body may just reabsorb. The only risk was that I'm rhesus negative (look it up on nhs websites and don't be alarmed - it's easily managed!) so had to have an anti-d injection after the scan due to being over 12 weeks.
Baby was seen wiggling about straight away - all fine.
ECH are different to subchronic haemorrhage from what I was told and read. Please try not to fret too much.
Best bit of advice I could give - any bleeding on wiping, wear a panty liner and monitor the volume and colour. Try physically rest - don't be alarmed when you start moving again if there's more discharge - it's just gravity doing its job. Bright red is fresh. Dark red / brown is older blood so likely from something earlier. Call EPU if you need advice; colour changing to bright red / getting heavier / pain. Anything going through a pad in 1 hour - down to a&e straight away.
Oh and avoid sex!! Wasn't aware but due to pregnancy your cervix can become more sensitive so sex can also cause minor spotting. Who knew.

I'm hoping that offers some reassurance and wishing you all the best in your pregnancies!

Hello
Im 22 weeks now bleeding stopped by 15 weeks. I had two major heamoages ( 8 weeks and at nearly 10 weeks) I was left to miscarry on the first as the midwife was convinced I'd lost my baby . The scan 4 days later showed a heart beat ❤ .... my second was even bigger and I ended up at a and e .... My bleeds were massive and happened whilst out and about both times the first one I had cramps and contraction pains. All symptoms matched miscarriage even the coffee granules type bleeding. I think we all present different but without a doubt I'm glad it all passed by 15 weeks. My little girl is growing well and fingers crossed continues to do so ....
Thank you for replying. Good luck with your pregnancy xx

It’s very reassuring to hear this! It says on my notes it’s only a small one and the hospital have said to monitor the bleed as long as it’s only brown and still fairly light it’s nothing to worry about it’s just the haemorrhage coming away! It’s made me feel a lot better, this is my first pregnancy I’m very anxious about anything going wrong as any woman would be! I have a private scan at 9 weeks in a couple of week 🤞🏻 xx
