Do ovarian cysts always need something done to them?

I've had a pain on and off on my right side all through my pregnancy (in fact I was afraid it was an ectopic pregnancy in the beginning because of this pain). I mentioned it once to my GP who said it might be an ovarian cyst but it was never really followed up (other issues around). It's an uncomfortable, stitch like pain which comes and goes on a fairly regular basis. Frankly I could do without it given all the rest of things happening. On the other hand, I'm terrified that if it is an ovarian cyst and I am "opened up" to deal with it, the doctors may do something to harm my fertility while getting rid of it. I already have polycystic ovaries so I kind of feel my ovaries need very sensitive treatment and if possible to be left alone between pregnancies :). I still hope to have more children after this one.

Anyway, sorry for such long background. My question is : do you always need to deal with something like this or can I bury my head in the sand and hope that the pain will go away permanently once the pregnancy is completed and my uterus or whatever else is pressing on it, goes down?

Sometimes the cysts just disappear-i dont think surgery is very common at all.Mine just went after alot of pain.I had a scan on Monday and was clear.

At what point did yours disappear? was it during pregnancy?

I'm 28 weeks. due another scan at 32. Due to see GP at 30 weeks. Do you think I can hang on? And might any of this harm the baby? Have to say your mention of potential ovary removal is what I am scared of but hopefully we are not in that sort of territory. Never know it may not be a cyst anyway.

I had one removed when I was a few weeks pregnant, and the pregnancy was fine. Apparently, lots of people have them lying dormant (well, lots of WOMEN!) but the pregnancy hormones feed them, so you probably can bury your head in the sand and hope it'll go away when you're had the baby.

I have one too (I grow them like nobody's business) and I'm 32 weeks. I had a scan at 6 weeks to confirm pregnancy was in the right place, and they spotted this huge cyst. They were happy to leave it, as it is probably the result of the hormones. Tbh, it hasn't been mentioned since then (will remind obst next week!) and I have had some pain, but nothing too severe. I got the impresssion they are quite common in pregnancy.

hi i also had a cyst in my last pregnancy.
had it removed whilst having s-section and was discovered to be on my fallopian tube and not the ovary. thay removed the tube and a cyst size of a large grapefruit.
(surgeons were all arguing over who was going to pop it if it was still intact after removal !!!!!
