I am now four days past my due date and following a sweep yesterday i have been up all night with painful period type pains and backache. This all ground to a halt at 5am. The same thing happened last thursday and again, just when i started to get excited, it stopped again!!

Anyone have similar experience, especially with a happy ending?? getting desperate now through lack of sleep.

That sounds promising. But considering i had the same thing last week and it stopped im begining to think that im getting to a certain point and my body isnt ready. MW said i was till quite posterier but that it was very thin??

NO! And it bloody hurt (literally). "Bit of discomfort", my ass! "Painful" is what they should have said.

with DS2 i had contraction type pains on and off for three weeks before giving birth. He was late so on the 7th overdue day I had a sweep and was found to be 5cm dilated so there was me getting all excited but it still took a day before labour started. I had hardly any pains after the sweep until contractions started the next day then it all happened fairly quickly so hope the same works for you.

Look forward to hearing news very very soon

I had 2 sweeps and neither worked so had to be induced instead. I didnt need the prostin gel as I was already 3cm's dilated so my waters were broken and I had a drip to start the contractions. Had quite a short first labour (around 8 hours) so not too bad really

I had a sweep 12 days past my due date, had dd on day 14.

Who knows if it worked? or was coincidence. I did go for the longest walk i could manage the day before and woke with contractions the next morning. I like to feel that the sweep combined with walking did the trick.

I had one at 10 days past my due date. I was told by my midwife to wait tow hours and then go for a walk. I did that and started to have strong contractions. I had dd2 appx 12 hours after the sweep.

How far overdue are you? Is the baby engaged?

Didn't work for me with either of my babies. Went into labour the first time on the morning of the day I was due to be induced. Second time I managed to persuade them to leave me another 24 hours before they induced me (11 days over) and went into labour that night. You can get them to put off inducing if all is well.

i had 2 sweeps and they bloody hurt. i also went in and out of labour for 4 days. the main problem was i wasn't sleeping, i was so tired. the best bit of advice i was given was to rest and sleep as much as possible, even though it's the last thing you want to do. i had a sleeping tablet from the hospital, had 5 hours solid sleep and woke up 5cm dialated.. so rest rest rest and give your body a chance to do it's thing. hope you're not too fed up :)

My doctor decided to strip my membranes last wednesday because I was 2cm and 50% effaced. It didn't work for me because all I had was some cramps and a little bleeding. Tomorrow I go in for my weekly checkup and if I am 3cm or 4cm dilated and 100% effaced then the doctor might make me go to the hospital because this is my first child.

4/5 palpable? Does that mean 1/5 in the pelvis and 4/5 still out?

Report
1g1unknown · 28/02/2006 16:58

Yes. It chnages some weeks to 3/5 which is the lowest it has been but sometimes comes back up again!
