1 cm dilated....how long to go??

I am 40+3 today, I have been to see MW this morning and due to having a show and cramps and backache for last few days they did a sweep. I'm 1cm dilated so things are happenning but I just wondered if anyone can tell me how long it's going to take to get in to 'real' labour? I'm presuming it can't be too far off but there was talk of induction today (for next week) but I would rather it all happen naturally! I am drinking RLT, having sex, eating pineapple, bouncing on a birthing ball and planning a hot cury tonight!!

Ohhh, all the best! Flowers Exciting times!

Not sure what is 'normal' but with my first pregnancy it took me 17 hours to get from 1cm to DS being born. Had 15 hours in labour and 2 hours of pushing.

He was born at 39 weeks weighing a hefty 8lb 6oz :)

They say 1cm an hour then delivery but labour is never textbook!!!!. 5 hours here (first pregnancy) at 39wk and as needles a hefty boy at 4kg.

Good luck - soon have your little one with you, enjoy the curry!

OOO exciting when it gets going!

I went from 3cm to delivery in 8 hours. Pushed for less than 15 minutes, DH reckons 2 pushes, I reckon 6 but who cares? Grin

Good luck and just think, you'll be hugging your tenny weeny gorgeous baby.

Oooh I'm getting broody and DS is only 8 months!

All at the same timeShockGrin

Good luck, hope it is speedySmile With ds it took about 70 hours from 1cm to delivery.

With dd I was 1cm two weeks before I went into labour, but when I did it was 5 hours all done.

I was at 1cm for hours. I went from 1 to 3cm in an hour and from 3cm to 4cm in an hour. From there four hours until she was out. My friend was at 1cm for three days and laboured for another two.

Haha Gobblers-that would take some multi-tasking!! What I'm worried about is that I'm just going to be stuck here at 1cm! I haven't had a proper contraction yet (I'm presuming I'll know when I have a proper one) and this is first baby so don't know how it is all supposed to feel! Don't know the sex of baby either and I can't wait to find out! We are still trying to agree on names though so maybe we need a little extra time!!

Hello OP - sorry to say that I was at 2cm for 2 weeks (first baby), and 50% effaced for the second of those two weeks. It's possible that you've been at 1cm for ages, too! But I think this could be a good thing: I like to think that in those two weeks my body was gathering its forces for what was to come! Incidentally, what got my labour going was endless walking (with seemingly tonnes of energy) the day before, window shopping, running a couple of errands, all very calm and jolly. 'Twas great. Tearing up just thinking about!

Good luck to you, I do recommend trying to remember how you feel right now!! Smile

Yes, OP, you will know what a contraction feels like when you get one. Trust me!

Please come back on to update us all and when the baby is born.

All the best!

Surely it's time for sex now op? Or maybe some more ball bouncing? WinkGrin

Good luck, fingers crossed that something is happening.

Popping in for an update - has LO made an appearance yet?

Fingers crossed you don't have to wait too long. I see from PPs that I was lucky being relatively fast - and he was 2 weeks early. As it was, we just spent some time thanking him for being born on a Saturday meaning DH didn't have to use up one of his precious 3 days leave (we're not in the UK) hanging around the labour ward reading 'cos he got so bored

I hope that OP has had her baby by now :o.

It took me 37 hours from 1cm with DD1 and with DD2 I was 2cm 2 weeks before I went into labour!

How are you getting on OP?

Afraid I went around a few cm dialated with both my DDs for the last week or so before anything kicked off. DD1 was 40+10. DD2 was 40 and to this day I don't know if it helped but we did have sex about 4 hours before I went into labour with her Grin. It has to be worth a try!

No I am still here with no baby!!! Have had sex and a long brisk walk this morning which has resulted in a big loss of my mucus plug (even though I had lost some of it already) and now having cramps and backache and my bump keeps going very hard about every 5 mins! Now for a cup of RLT and more ball bouncing!! Still waiting for a proper contraction...is it weird I am actually really looking forward to it?!

But OP, those ARE contractions, aren't they?? Cramps, backache and bump going very hard every five mins is JUST what I had!!

Report
Onlymydogunderstandsme · 13/06/2012 21:48

Well I presume they are doing something and that is how I have started to dilate and lost my mucus plug but I thought I would know when I had a 'proper' contraction? I think it just hasn't got going yet. Still have cramps and bump going hard so hoping things will liven up!

Well with my first I was 2cm for most of the day and then went from 2cm to 10 cm within a few hours. I remember my waters broke at 02:30 and he was born at 07:21. The midwives were pretty impressed for a first baby :)
Good luck , exciting times :)

I was 3cm when I had my sweep. Gave birth 5 days later. Don't get too excited. [misery emoticon]

It won't be too much longer now OP!

DD1 who was 40+10 started, finally, totally naturally, a few hours after I had been admitted for an induction. I had a very smooth labour and delivery once the time was right for her. She is to this day a little madam with a desire to do things HER way. (i love that in her!)
