integrated nuchal results

I have just had the results from my integrated test, which is 1 in 340 chance of having a baby with Down's. I know this isn't in the high risk category, but it still seems pretty high. My last pregnancy risk was 1 in thousands and I'm only 28, and the sonographer said that he thought the nuchal fold was thin. Does anyone know how to disseminate these results better than me? I am on steroid medication - could this and/or hormone levels affect the result?

Hi, did you have this done at Bart's hospital in London? I had the integrated test done there and like you was a bit baffled by my result. The administrator there was most helpful in explaining things, in fact he must have been on the 'phone for half an hour to me. I would call the hospital and ask for some advice. Good luck.

I had it done at Queen Charlotte's in London and I phoned the hospital and a midwife explained that the integrated testing gives completely different results to serum screening, which is what I had with my son, so I can't really compare the results. Apparently 1 in 340 is a low risk result for me, so I feel reassured!

Is this the result of the total integrated test (i.e. the two blood tests together with the nuchal scan)? Because when I had just the nuchal scan I had a probability of 1 in 580 but after the two blood tests were taken into account it became 1 in 16000 - so that can make a big difference (I am 41, so strictly speaking just based on my age the probability would have been 1 in 80). In some hospitals they do not just look at the nuchal fold but also at the nasal bone, which further improves the accuracy of the test.

By the way, I was told at the time, that they only recommend more invasive tests if the probability is 1 in 250 or below (i.e. 1 in 200 etc.).
