Anyone had a False negative pregnancy test result?

Period is 4 days late which doesn't sound a lot but is very unusual for my usually clockwork cycle. I have tested with an Early Response on Wednesday and a Clear Blue on Friday but they both came up a not pregnant result.

We use the withdrawal method which has worked really well for us over the past 10 years and the one time we wanted to fall pregnant we did. We did have a "whoops" moment the other week when I had the feeling he didn't pull out properly in time but we weren't totally sure.

Symptoms wise I am eating loads, feeling a little more tired in the afternoons and I seem to be a bit clumsy but that's about it. My head is done in thinking about it all the time, am I aren't I. I will do another test in a few days.

Just wondering if anyone else has had an early negative result but then found out they really were pregnant?

Never had a false negative but hav had a few crazy long cycles with no apparent reason (55 days and 40 days). Weirdly both times I got pregnant the next month. Am usually regular

Yes I had a false negative when I tested about 3 days after I was due.
This was for DC2 and I recognised the symptoms from the first time round and didn't trust the result - tried again a couple of days later and it was positive.

Oooh reading this with interest - am convinced I am pg but did a test this morning and NOTHING - not even a very faint line. Not sure when period is due as not been keeping track of it, but not had one for a while...

Have probably cursed myself now...

I had repeated negatives when I was convinced I was pregnant. I even ended up having a course of clomid because the GP believed a negative, then finally a positive, I was given a scan to see if it was a multiple pregnancy due to the clomid. I should have been about 5-6 weeks. On scan I was 22 weeks!! Shock

I was told by the doc to do a test 2 days before my period was due, as she felt I could be (had gone to see her about something else and she said one of those ealier tests should pick it up) which was negative but felt that I was, so did one again when period was 2 days overdue 4 days later and it was positive.

I had 3 negative tests - one over 2 weeks after af due date. I thought I had fibroid issues or something and then a friend pointed out I must be pregnant because one morning I said 'eurgh. the smell of coffee is making me really sick today'.

Aww emsyj maybe next month.

Still no sign of AF so will do another test on Tuesday if nothing happens by then. I have a feeling I am pregnant despite the 2 negatives and will come back and update for anyone interested :)

Positive that's amazing. AF was due 19th April. So many -ves, so many pregnancy symptoms. Trying again Thursday and will use FMU. Would be amazing to find I'm a few weeks in!

oh yes.

I was testing negative for FOUR BLOODY MONTHS! with my second. I knew I was pregnant but I got a negative. I was 4 months pregnant when I got the positive. I remember my husband coming down the stairs. I was standing at the bottom, just looking at him like [oh bollocks] Grin

Sorry to hear that emsyj ((hugs))

My "surprise" is now a lanky 6 foot tall 16 year old!! He was my 9th pregnancy, so I should have trusted what I thought, really. I sort of "knew" that I was all that time, but when you get a negative it sort of messes your head up a bit! I eventually went to the Dr and said that if I wasn't pregnant I was dying, cos I felt so awful!!! Luckily I was pregnant!! Grin

So this could be it? I'm pretty sure I was pregnant Jan/Feb and lost "something" along with other obvious signs including some very faint positives which should have been very clear as I went to about 7 weeks. Not certain so not going to dwell on it but this one (if there is one) could also not test positive til later on. I know I should be on conception with this but your stories are helping me feel a little less mad Blush

Funny how the mind can play tricks on you, period arrived this morning 6 days late. Although we weren't actively TTC I admit to feeling a tad disappointed as I really thought we could be in the family way.

Thanks to all for keeping my post company over the last few days.

Sorry to hear that FattyMa - it's disappointing isn't it? Never mind, if you know now how you feel about not being pregnant, perhaps it's a pointer towards what you would really like? Smile

Thanks emsyj - yes it has certainly given us food for thought. DH has been against having any more children so I was pleased with his attitude if I was preg and I think he was slightly disappointed when AF arrived this morning!
