Did you have an amnio? How did you feel afterwards (physically)?

I woke up yesterday morning (three days after the amnio) with stomach cramp and was panicking because I was so worried that I might go into labour. Felt poorly all day. Seems to have settled down now though.
I'm not sure if it was psychological, because of all the emotional stress I've been through. Seemed strange to get stomach cramps so long after the procedure was done.

Could you have an ultrasound to put your mind at rest? Best wishes xxx

The midwife came round yesterday to listen to heartbeat and feel tummy and she said it would probably be okay, and things have calmed down now. Was just wondering how other people felt afterwards.

yes, i had one with dd. i was told with mine that the thing that causes problems with them is infection getting in when the sample is taken and any symptoms occur within the first 48hrs. however, i had to wait 3 weeks for the results and it was an awful 3 weeks, the stress of it all can take its toll (haven't posted on your thread but i read what you've been going through). could the cramp have been braxton hicks? good luck with the rest of your pregnancy

Thanks lucykate, good to read about the 48 hour thing, was wondering when could start to relax about possible after-effects.

I had one with ds. I found the procedure to be lots more uncomfortable than I had imagined and felt really "off" for a day or so.

emkana I had one with dd over4 years ago. Felt sh*te and blurgh for a few days including abominal discomfort ... personally I think it was dd taking her revenge that the radiologist had to push around quite a bit till she shimmied out of the way

If in doubt go back and talk to HV/doc... to put your mind at ease.

I felt pretty shaky, literally, after mine. I had read of a lot of fairly positive experiences and I suppose I expected it to be easier than it actually was. The consultant said it was normal to feel like this, as there would be plenty of adrenaline pounding round my body. When I got home I did nothing, went to bed all day, did no lifting of anything and generally got dh to do the things I felt I shouldn't. Felt pretty stressed out about the whole thing, and I would say it took me about a week to feel back on track. Now almost 30 weeks pregnant and all ok.

Really hope you are feeling better this morning Emkana, I hope you are managing to get some rest and taking things easy.

I felt a bit crampy for 24 hours and utterly exhausted for a few days.

Hello again emkana, Silly question i know but have you had your bowls opened since the amnio. I went to hospital with cramps and back ache, convinced that I was going into labour and it turned out to be constipation from the stress and upset of it all and the fact that I didnt dare strain to go to the loo incase I damaged anything. A good dose of lactulose soon did the job. Hope you soon feel better!

Hi I had mine on Friday and have had a few niggles but not too bad. The mw told me that if I wanted anything to give them a call.
Why dont you ring them today and ask for a scan. Im sure they would do it given the circumstances.

I was advised the risk of miscarriage is for 3 weeks after and to take it easy for a week.
Good Luck
