Pregnancy

At what point of severe morning sickness did you go into hospital?

This is my first pregnancy, I'm 7 weeks and have been almost constantly sick for the last 10 days. I was at my GPs on Tuesday, who gave me these anti-sickness tablets that you have to let melt under your lip. She also said to keep an eye out for dehydration as I would then need IV fluids.

Now, the tablets aren't really helping. They taste bitter and take almost 2 hours to dissolve by which point I have vomited them out again from the taste. I can eat some things but they do eventually come back up again after lets say 30 mins, same with fluids.

Do you think the 30 minute window is enough for my body absorb some of the fluids / nutrients?

And at what point will. I seek medical help again? And where would that be over the weekend?

I am so exhausted, it is beyond a joke. Even taking a shower has become a major task that I can only manage every other day...

MrsHuxtable - you have Hyperemesis gravidarum.

There are lots of other medications you can have if the GP is willing to prescribe them to you. There is a support thread here on pregnancy for like minded past and present sufferers. It is truly grim.

Did your GP test your urine for ketones? If not you can buy kesosticks from the pharmacy to test for them yourself.

I was hospitalised at 7 weeks for IV rehydration and prescribed cyclizine for the sickness. After a few weeks I began to feel more human.

Rest is the key, if you need to sleep then sleep. Don';t feel guilty, and do not force yourself to do things you simply cannot manage such as shopiing or even worse cooking.

Food and drink tips - lemonade, crisps, lucozade, flat coke. If it gets so bad you are keeping no fluids in at all try sucking on ice cubes or lollies. If you are still vomitting and losing weight then get thee to A&E.

Please don't worry for your baby. Your baby will thrive, you are the most important thing at the moment.

Please come over to the HG thread, it is fantastic support network, and one of our memebers has even made her pwn website to try and get HG more 'out there'
