Tricks to feel kicks

I am 18 weeks pregnant with my second and althought I have felt some very small movements I am really not getting much at all. Some days nothing and when I do get them it really is pretty vague.
Are there any ways to get the baby to move a bit, I know sitting down quietly is best for trying to feel baby move but anything else?

Is anyone else at my stage and still not really feeling anything?

I'm 24 weeks with my second/fourth (second that has gotten this far). I started getting flutters around 17 weeks, give or take, but it's only been the last two or three weeks that I've been getting proper kicks. I've got an anterior placenta (placenta on the front) so that delays the feelings by a week or two also.

Caffeine is okay in small amounts and I find a cup of coffee, glass of coke (you don't even want to know what my iPhone autocorrected that to!), or bit f chocolate gets her wiggling. Usually about half an hour afterwards she's bopping away.

She enjoys the bath and the shower. I don't know if it's the warmth or the water sounds or just that I'm more relaxed and I've got no other distractions but I get a lot of movement when I'm laying in the bath.

Music. Babies love music. I forget what gestation they can hear external sounds from but I'm sure it's around 18-20 weeks.

The cinema. We went two week ago to see Thor and she kicked me everytime there was music or a bang or shouting. DS was the same.

Have a cold drink and then go lie down for half an hour, you should get lots of wiggles. I get lots if I lie on my back, which is fine for a short while but roll over if you get dizzy or sore (it hurts my lower back after a while).

I'm 29+4 and only felt movements from 21 weeks! (It's my first!)
I find eating is the best way :D he goes crazy if i eat something sugary! I'm still waiting for a really good tip tho, other than my boyfriend no ones been able to feel him kick because they seems to be so random and stop whenever anyone tries to feel!

I'm almost 18wks pg and with these (expecting twins!) I find carbs wake them up! Potatoes/pasta/bread etc! Have also found if you sit bent forward slightly and gently push lower stomach against thighs can feel loads of activity in there! Discovered when tying shoe laces!

With other DCs later on in pg the shower, hair dryer noise and the very noisy printer at work always resulted in fair few kicks! :)

this is quite cruel really but used to amuse me no end....

lay in the bath, and flick both sides of the bath at the same time (works better in an enamel one as louder!

watch that bump jump!

i now question the morality of doing this but at the time i read it in a baby book somewhere....does work though!

18 wks here. Went to the spa today and baby never stopped moving! :) Relaxation, music, being pampered....

Sounds cruel but for the last few weeks, now 23 weeks + 1, but the best way to get him to move is either to lie on my front or side or to sit with my foot under my body on the bed... he always lts me know that he doesnt like the positions i am in.

yogic inversions helped me. however, i would advise to stop these after 26-28 weeks

Thanks ladies, I tried the cold water but still not really anything, Maybe its just a late kicker! Will try and be a bit more attentive tonight. I shall also flick the sides of the bath next time I have one!! :)

Just wait a couple of weeks and then you'll be wishing the damn bump would stop kicking!!

I hope so gallicgirl! :) May be because I was also a bit overweight whe I gpt pregnant this time which might make it harder as there is more padding!

I'm 31+5 at the moment, and finding it hysterical. My bump looks like Bby is about to burst out at any moment a la Alien. Completely mental. My partner and I have been watching my bump jiggle about of its own accord - he's fascinated by it.

Mummytigger - I'm 28+6 and have been doing that today too! Things that make my baby kick are: orange juice, water from the cooler at work, lying on my side and putting my hand on the side of my bump (always tries to push it off!) and daddy talking to it - he's been kicked in the face before Grin And yes, I'm at the stage where sometimes I wish it wouldn't kick quite so much when I'm at work trying to concentrate on something and suddenly it doesn't seem all that important compared to the little thing squirming about inside me...

i'm 26+4 and Haribo's work a treat, esp the sugary ones. As do any lemon sugary cheese cakes. also have an anteria placenta.

can't wait until we can see him moving about - I never could with DS so felt a little short changed on that front,

vicar - i'm gonna have to try that as have an enamal bath lol.

I remember last time I think dd was squished against my rib for weeks as it hurt like hell constantly! It is almost like watching a little alien at that stage.
When could you feel the bump from the outside? :)

no a boy again apparently (am having a double check friday week to show our mums)

but the baby goes mental everytime I have sweeties (not chocs though gone right off of that, only been having the odd bits lately.) just anything really really sweet.

DP felt him moving (but only when pressing really hard) from at about 21 weeks - now you only have to hover your hand lightly to feel him move, but i'm yet to see him moving about.

Thats funny, I think an old wives tale says that a girl like sweet stuff etc and will move when you eat it and boys like savoury.......

I've got my 20 weeks scan a week on Wednesday :)

I know, alhough with DS, I had cravings for welsh cakes, cheese/onions sarnies & mars bars. (not all together lol) this time they've been random, apparently a high heart rate means a girl as well, and his are always 150 bpm+. But the sonographer said 'definatly a boy' hoping it is as we've brought clothes - otherwise will be the youngest cross dresser in town. :o

good luck for you scan.

im 22 weeks and i can feel mine loads as soon as i decide to go to bed. If i lie on my back i can really feel him moving and lots of kicks, if i move onto my side he kicks the side im lying on. if i sit and bend down so im squashing him he kicks a lot then too. Hes a bit bossy already! i saw my belly move the other day when he kicked, that was exciting and my hubby saw it which was fab.

My favourite game at the moment is to lie in the bath with the shower on and the plug in, and then as the tub slowly fills with water, start splashing my bump. Baby will instantly kick the other side of my belly, so I can make him do a little dance!

:o the things we do. clydie (as we call the bump) seems to no like bath times atm - always goes to sleep. :(

I'm 18 weeks and can only feel the odd wriggling movement every now and again. Not every day.
Was also a little overweight when I got pregnant and I'm sure the padding has something to do with it!
Fingers crossed there will be some proper movement soon. x
