Has anyone tried EPO and did it work? I have seen you can take tablets or use them vaginally so I was just wondering if anyone can recommend it or if its more trouble than its worth!

Just bought my first bottle of the stuff.. Sitting here wondering if I should take them now, such a pussy! grin

KarmaBiatch, did you get any results from the EPO yet? I've got some arriving with the grocery shop so I'm curious...

Insanityismymiddlename Sat 14-Sep-13 11:39:45

I tried it 2 capsules at night and one orally a day didn't help still went to 40+12 and had to be induced as cervix wasn't doing anything sad

bluebeanie Sat 14-Sep-13 12:13:17

I'm due today and the pharmacist at boots has refused to sell them to me as their effect isn't knownsad sad

KarmaBiatch Sun 15-Sep-13 00:59:54

I've taken 1300mg tablets twice a day for 2 days now, and I don't believe it's a coincidence that baby has dropped and I've had way more braxton hicks/stabby fanjo over the last couple days, could hardly sleep last night and thought I was going in to labour!

Don't expect a show until I start popping them up to the cervix at 38 weeks, but I'm feeling hopeful grin

My midwife suggested using EPO from 35 weeks on...I'm not certain what effect it had. I did have a wonderful home birth.

KarmaBiatch Mon 16-Sep-13 12:08:42

update on the EPO experiment: at 35 weeks and taking the pills orally for 5 days my previously posterior cervix is now in the correct position, soft, and slightly open (sorry if tmi). will start them internally towards the end of the week! Determined not to go over my EDD! grin

I saw a thrush pessary recommended up thread - just a reminder that you're not meant to use these in pregnancy.

Jorior Mon 16-Sep-13 13:15:12

I'm SO glad this thread has popped up again. I'm 33wks a the moment and as I went overdue with my 2 previous pregnancies, I'm delighted to hear about EPO. Fingers crossed!

Just to update, this will be the third day of taking 3 capsules orally and one inserted vaginally before bedtime. Nothing exciting to report yet other than it definitely feels like the baby has dropped down a bit. I'm also getting a lot more stabby fanjo pains and CM has suddenly increased also.

KarmaBiatch Mon 16-Sep-13 15:24:20

kilkers how far along are you?

JellyCurls Mon 16-Sep-13 15:33:49

38 weeks today and have taken a leap of faith and used the oil from EPO capsule to massage around my cervix, my gosh EPO stinks. However since I have done this have had lots of stabby pains. Will pierce and insert a capsule tonight and see what that does. Keep you all posted x

good luck jelly, id like to try this.. but still abit too early for me (33+3). i will do once its time x

KarmaBiatch Mon 16-Sep-13 16:43:36

honey you could start taking 500mg daily just now smile it doesn't induce labour, just makes your cervix more favourable smile

honey86 Mon 16-Sep-13 18:41:54

oohh thats ok then... im on#4 atm, my last 3 births were very long n very complicated. all induced and born instrumentally. my kids dont seem to wanna come out grin

honey86 Wed 18-Sep-13 21:46:39

howd it go jelly? x

Hannana Wed 18-Sep-13 22:30:13

Right, I think I'll be off to buy some of this tomorrow! I'm 39+1 and am keen not to go too far past EDD so it's definitely worth a shot.

JellyCurls Thu 19-Sep-13 00:38:05

Couldn't stand the smell so didn't try again - sorry. Was talking to mw about it today and strongly advised me against this and any other ways to induce labour or encourage cervix to ripen. Her reason for not inserting was concerning infection so up to us. No harm in taking orally though if you can stand them
