Should baby moving hurt so early on?

Ok ? this may sound odd ? but does anyone else feel a pain when baby moves? I?m nearly 17 weeks and have been feeling baby ?flip? for around a week or so. It?s nice to know baby is moving around and as it?s my first I feel pretty lucky I can feel something so early on! But my concern is that it?s getting stronger each day and yesterday baby moving caused me to gasp out loud twice! It?s not that it really hurts ? it?s just I didn?t expect it to feel this strong already. I?m trying to think how I can describe the feeling ? it?s a bit like low down pain crossed with a small version of that ?driving over a bridge stomach flip? feeling ? if you know what I mean! I?m also feeling ?stretchy? feelings in my lower stomach so just wondering if baby is having a growth spurt or whether I should be worried or not!

Thanks!

I think varies a lot. My mum tells me that she felt me moving around at 11 weeks which is a bit early. But then it sounds like I was much more active in the womb than I ever have been out it ;)

I could feel moving at 17 wks and there have been the odd moments that made me jump. If you're really worried then I would see your midwife but I think you've probably just got a kicker on your hands.

I had a feeling as if the baby was scratching my uterus really hard at 18-20 weeks. I know this is impossible. My consultant said that this was likely memrains stretching and causing pain. Maybe you are experiencing the same... Hope you feel better!

I have had what you describe since the same time, and am now 21 weeks. they assure me is "normal".
I had been having abdominal pain since the second month, so this freaked me out. I had thought it would make me all happy and glowing and maternal, but it mainly hurts! (although like you say it is kinda reassuring to know the peron in there is alive).

I was freaked the hell out at first - wrote a lovely detailed list describing the 5 different types of pain I get. To show the doctors at one point.

Week 19 it turned out that I had gotten so used to pain I didn't pick up that I had a UTI, so once they treated that it eased off for a bit.

It did still hurt though.

Last week they ran an abdominal ultrasound to check the pain under the ribs, and the only thing unusual is that I have strained/torn a tummy muscle, and that seriously hurts now when the little person in there flips on that area or gives it a nice jab.

Feel free to push your docs though as the peace of mind is priceless, I would hate for you to go so nuts like I did.

There were times when DS would move and it would feel like he was tap dancing on my cervix or kicking me in the pubic bone and then other times where my lower abdomen would feel like it was swelling and it could be quite painful. So far Peanut is following the same pattern, I'm 15+2 and have been getting movements for roughly the last two weeks, there are times when it can make me flinch, especially when the movements are directed downwards.

If you're at all worried then see your GP or midwife.
