Pregnancy

10 weeks, belly already HUGE, is this normal?! (2nd pregnancy)

Is it normal to show much earlier than during first pregnancy? This is my second pregnancy. My belly was noticeable from about 6 weeks and now (10 weeks) it is huge! It is not a little lower belly pouch, it starts right under my chest. Any comforting words? Thank you!

I'm much much bigger this time (also 2nd) than last. Apparently it's to do with the stomach muscles not being as strong after a pregnancy.

A friend of mine had to tell her friends and work at 10 weeks because she was unmistakably pregnant by then.

Not just you!

Depends how old dc is? any risks of more than 1?

Thank you for the replies.

MrsBloomingTroll weak stomach muscles sounds about right for me then, lol. I have been worried because I haven't been eating much, and started this round 5kg lighter than last time, but just can't hold belly in.

harrygracejessica DD just turned 2. Scan showed this one is definitely a single pregnancy (shame, I keep hoping for twins!)

I'm the same this time, I didn't show at all until about 16w with DD and am freaking out about this one at almost 10w. Have been in a slight panic that there might be more than one in there and have 3 weeks to wait until the scan!

Do you think you just show more of a bump earlier or look bigger all the way through?

Oh yes! I am 9+4 and my trousers won't do up by about 4pm, I have to discreetly open the button and let the fly down! I'm thinking I may have to tell people soon as I am looking large...

I was worried about this - I'm 13 weeks and look like I did at 20 weeks with dd1. My excuse is it's twins, but I think being 2nd pg is something to do with it too.

its normal, and ime you look bigger all the way through but then my 2nd baby was quite a bit bigger than 1st one so suppose that added to it too. have been showing since about 6-8 weeks with this one!
i think its to do with stomach muscles are weakened by previous pregnancies, especially if they are close together?

I measured 20 weeks at 6 weeks Shock I have now had 9 scans to check growth. Just a singleton - but I have too much fluid. And the head is off the centile chart Confused

ds1 = still in my normal clothes at 24 weeks

ds2 = had to buy maternity jeans at 10 weeks!!!

narcolepsy My 2nd pregnancy was like that! ds2 had a 38cms head when he was born

I think its normal to be bigger, but bear in mind your uterus is still small, so not up there under your boobs but still tucked away in your pelvis.

NarcolepsyQueen · 18/03/2011 09:37

Becaroooo really? What is a typical size? I am dreading it - I had a 3rd degree tear with my DD and her head was a normal size. Only 6 weeks to go!

Dont really know NQ!!

ds2 measured big for dates the whole time and I had too much fluid too.

On the plsy side, he was smaller than we thought...only 8lbs 4oz. They were estimating over 9lbs!

I had a 2nd degree tear with ds1 (much smaller baby)and a 3rd degree tear with ds2. I dont think in my case it was anything to do with the size of the babies, I think it was more the position I delivered in (as recommeded by the NCT I might add!!!)

This is pregnancy#3 for me and I've been in maternity clothes since 8 weeks.

I'm 24 weeks now and everyone is asking when I'm due. They all get quite a shock when I tell them it's another 4 months! God knows how big I'll be by then.

Becaroooo please GOD, tell me it cant be worse than last time......please! My DD was 8lb 9oz, and was induced 2 weeks early. I am aiming for a birthing pool and being upright this time (I have really bad SPD(wheelchair bound)). What position were you in?

Report
Becaroooo · 18/03/2011 10:04

With ds1 I was squatting and ds2 I was kneeling and leaning over a stool.

I didnt get the chance of a birthing pool..I would have liked that.

Both my 2nd (i.e. pushing) stages were very short...I only pushed about 6 times with each baby and out they popped Grin

I think that was the issue....very quick deliveries each time...ds1 was only 4lbs 15oz Sad and had a really tiny head and yet I still tore....

This is my first, I'm 10 weeks and noticably pregnant (also starting just below my chest).

The weak stomach muscles thing doesn't really add up because I was running and doing 200 crunches a day pre-pregnancy. Maybe it's genetic Confused

Thanks everyone for all your replies, reassuring to know it's probably normal! Sorry about being late responding, have been really wiped out this time especially having to run around after DD as well. First time around I spent days laying on the sofa moaning about feeling sick and ordering DH about, but it turns out toddlers don't care if Mama's tired or nauseous. ;)

Tiokiko The rest of me is staying normal-ish but the belly is unrecognisably large.

jezebelle I know that the uterus is still tiny and down below, which is why the bulge starting under my chest was having me worried.

harrygracejessica Congratulations!! 2 sets of twins, that's amazing. :) I'll keep hoping...

KatieWatie, I've never done 200 crunches a day ever! Congratulations and good luck! We should be due around the same time. :D

I feel exactly the same too - it's really noticable and I'm 13 weeks. Last time I was 20 weeks and still had to tell people!

I'm a bit apprehensive about just how big I might get...!
