Pregnancy

13 weeks with identical twins, first time, anyone else out there?!

i am 29, first pregnancy, went for first scan at 13 weeks on monday to be told i am having identical twins! none in either families, i seem to just be the lucky one! i still look like someone has shoved something sharp up my bottom. shocked cat comes to mind. Shock

i am 5ft 10 and and before i got pregnant and in the early weeks, i struggled to get over 9.5st (i am a freelance spin instructor and do 7 classes a week). now i am nearly 11st, but apart from my huge boobs, i am not showing at all. still in my size 10 clothes and even able to suck my tummy in super flat. where on earth are the twins growing?!

feel completely normal, not sick, not tired, not overly hungry and wondering if there is enough food in the world for the 3300 a day calorie intake i am being told to consume.

can anyone impart some widsom and experience on me?! feeling rather like a fraud, as apart from my hilarious scan pics (twins lying down side by side facing one another, appearing to be arm wrestling), i have nothing to show for my secret!! Hmm

Congratulations Grin

I have 4 month old id twins, they are amazing [proudmummyemoticon]

Don't worry, I actually lost weight in the begining, you will be monitored closely with Id twins and it's all worth it.

You're lucky if you aren't ill, I was sick throughout the pregnancy.

thanks!

i bet your twins are so cute, i hope mine will be! i never do things by halves so i am not surprised i am having id twins.

never felt sick, well, never noticed i was feeling sick. did notice i wanted to eat the entire world, but as i am so active, i am always ravenous!

when did you start to show, if you dont mind me asking?

That feeling of being desperate to show soon subsides when you have a comedy bump!

Start taking a multivitamin, and just east well, lean meat, kale, spinach, spinning whilst pregnant sounds like hard work!

i am due back on thursday for nunchal stuff as twins are quite big so hard to check apparently and they said theyll prescribe me with iron tablets etc.

spinning is good fun but soon enough doing the hover position and actually getting my knees up may be an issue if i get my comedy bump soon!!!

I'm quite slim.and back in my old clothes, I think I had a small bump at 16 weeks, but I was huge in the end. The girls came early at 34 weeks, which us very common with id twins, we were in hospital for 5 nights but all ok in the end.

Just curious to know who they know that your babies are identical already?

I didn't take iron tablets they can make you quite constipated (tmi)

Where abouts are you, which hospital?

solihull based Lavitabellissima and i am lucky so far in that a bowl of bran flakes for breakfast has never let me down (gross but true)!!!!

smellyfeet - apparently they HAVE to tell you at the first scan whether the babies are fratenal or identical, ie, sharing a placenta, so they can make sure you are looked after properly, they were quite peeved and said that at 6 or 8 weeks theyd have been able to tell instantly, but as i am 13 weeks, they are quite big, so it took them ages to tell as its cramped in there! on the scan they pointed out that the babies share the same sac etc... hence identical.

Mine had separate sacs but shared a placenta, I was told at 10 weeks, and had scans every two weeks to check their growth and no signs of TTTs

I had a scan at 8 weeks and found out having ID twins, now 11.5 and going for nuchal scan next week. Mine are in seperate sacs but same placenta. had three and half weeks to get my head around it but still have moments of OMG!!

I am sick every morning without fail and nauseous throughout the day - eating relieves so am already packing on the weight. I'm 5ft8 and size 14-16 and I have a bump already, (this is my first), I and people who know can see it but if you didnt know you would think I'd been eating too many pies - which in all fairness I have been! Smile

Have been told I'll be under consultant care and have first appointment on 29th.

Congratulations red!

Hi,
I'm almost 30 weeks with identical twins. Shared placenta but a membrane between them.
It's been pretty knackering. I had 2 bouts of flu in early pregnancy and was admitted to hospital with morning sickness. I've felt a lot better since around 20 weeks.
I had scans every 2 weeks from 16 to 26 weeks to check for TTS, and I'm now down to every 3 weeks.
I completely know what you mean about eating. In the early days I was eating tons and tons. It has decreased now luckily.
The tiredness is a bit of a killer, I need a nap every afternoon.
It is very exciting though and whenever I see twins I think how lucky I am.

I'm 32 weeks with twins in 2 sacs and 2 placentas which they will say are non Id but they still can be it depends when the eggs split :)

This is my 2nd set of twins so I've been here before lol, was sick last time, very tired etc and had SPD, had twin girls who turned out to be ID who are now 2.5. This time I'm pregnant with boys and been very very sick, totally shattered, bad spd, sciatica and have gestational diabetes. I'll have 5 under 5 when I've had these!!!!!! The girls were born at 33 weeks so I've been warned these could arrive at anytime :)

omg two sets of twins!!! wooooowwwwww!!

still cannot believe it and every time i see it written down (fella keeps emailing me saying "when the twins arrive this... when the twins are here that...") i end up giggling, then remember this is really happening!!

getting a lot of attention at the hospital which is equally as nice as it is worrying. nuchal tests look ok so far, was in there earlier being scanned for 30 mins straight and was feeling uncomfortable by the end... fella is the one asking all the good questions, i just lie there like a vegetable constantly going "is that the head?", "which one is that?".... doh

next up... TWIN CLINIC... sounds exciting!!

Yup 2 sets and it's the best thing in the world!!!! When they cry together etc just keep thinking of double the kisses, double the cuddles, double everything it really is fab!!! I'm just lucky enough to be going through it all again - although wish someone else was having the poop pregnancy lol.

Congrats!

I'm 34 weeks with id twin boys and booked for a c section in 2 1/2 weeks. I will never forget the day we were told it was twins and I dont think it will hit us until we're handed our two babies.

I reached 12 weeks with no morning sickness but a massive appetite. From 13 - 20 weeks I was sick every morning but without any nausea. I have never felt so tired as I did from 10 - 15 weeks. The 2nd trimester was great I had never felt better, full of energy and blooming! Now in 3rd trimester i'm quite tired and can't eat much as my stomach is squashed by the boys. So I haven't really been eating the extra cals as I physically can't!

I found the iron tablets made me feel really ill i.e. faint, stomach cramps and constipation so gave up on those. My iron count was perfect anyway when they tested my blood so no need for them.

You will be monitored very closely. Please don't let the docs scare you too much with TTTS risk and risk of premature labour etc. It's good to be prepared for these things but it got to the point when we were like - enough is enough we know an id twin pregnancy is high risk and we can't do anything to reduce these risks so please just leave us to enjoy the pregnancy and we'll cross each bridge as it comes. Touch wood everything has gone fine so far.

Saying all that - we're very excited and it's definitely going to be double the joy!
