Has anyone else had this? My upper back kills me from early afternoon until I go to bed every day - has anyone got any suggestions how to relieve it/anyone got any idea why I'd be getting upper back pain and no lower back pain (I'd always understoond pg women were affected in the lower rather than upper back)?

how pg are you? if you are as far as 2nd-3rd trimester then itll prob be referred pain from the uterus pressing everythin into your diaphragm which then gives like a shooting/ achey pain in your shoulder area if you are earlier then it may be the weight of your boobs pullin you forward!! i had alot of upper back pain at the earlier stage of my pg (im 30 wks now) and takin a long hot soak in the bath really helped me and than gettin my dp to massage my shoulders also helped! other than that hun im not sure!!

How many weeks are you? If the baby has moved up and is pushing on your rib cage, or kicking it! it could be affecting your t-spine which will be felt higher up. Also, your whole posture is changing, if your lumbar spine is shifting position then it's possible to have a knock on effect on the rest of your back and biomechanics.
Are you doing any exercise? I've found kneeling on hands and knees and taking the weight off your back helps. Also cat stetching and gentle rocking in that position (flexing your lower back to take it out of the exagerated extension/lordosis you get in the pregnant posture)gives relief. Can do this with a Swiss ball as well.
Maybe have a think about practical things too like the shoes your wearing and how your sleeping. Maybe in bed use pillows to keep yourself in a good side lying position (pillow between knees etc)
If all else fails then hope baby moves position soon!!

I'm 29 weeks and have had this for about 2 weeks (it's been getting worse and worse) on one side just below the shoulder. I've tried massage but that seems to make no difference - somehow the pain feels much deeper (not to mention excruciating!). I'll try the hot baths and stretches........may stop me reaching for the paracetamol.

change your bra.
get measured properly, and get a good quality supporting bra. if you are a big cup size then you are easily looking at 20 oe 25 pounds.
i had this with dd. correctly fitted bra sorted it out.

If it's any consolation, I had this at your stage from about 27 weeks for probably 3-4 weeks - i'm 33 weeks now and have only just realised whilst reading this that the pain has gone!!
