Sharp cramps, fainted @ 20 weeks

Hello, Am hoping for some reassurance as ironically I have 20 week scan later today.

I woke up went to the toilet and then suddenly had strong sharp cramps in my stomach, went on for about 10 mins or so and I couldnt move at all. I lay on the bathroom floor for quite a while, think I passed out as I started having those strange delusional type dreams which I have had before, when I cam round I then had very loud ringing in my ears.

The cramps subsided enough so I could walk back to the bedroom and then subsided some more over the next 30 minutes or so, I went back to sleep and have just woken up again, still have a slight cramp in my upper left side and still feel shaky. Am having something to eat and will go for my appoitment in a few hours. Any advice?

My advice is to call your MW immediately and get yourself checked out asap. Do not wait for your scan.

Ring labour ward and ask to be seen. I had to do that with 2 of my pregnancies and they were very happy to see me.

The scan went fine and the baby was healthy and the pain disappeared completely after an hour and a half. Only thing I still have is a tender lump on my head where I must have bumped it when I passed out. Wasn't able to see the midwife after the scan so I just left it at that.

Thanks for the responses, but now wondering if I should still see someone?

Hi Verly

I passed out in the dentists chair last week, no pain or cramping though. My midwife says it can be a common reaction to lying flat on your back, as this can cut off certain blood supplies. It freaked me out at the time though.

It most probably is nothing to worry about, but I would strongly recommend that you get yourself checked out by your GP or midwife. If they can't fit you in, call the labour ward, and they can advise you what to do.

So pleased to hear the scan went well. I hope the rest of your pregnancy is happy and worry free.
