Massive vomiting fit - reassurance!

Hi - TMI Alert!

I am 10 weeks and up until yesterday only suffered mild indigestion type nausea and that was very inconsistent. Last night I had a tiny little spew.

Just now (at work but thankfully in the loo) I had a huge vomiting fit, soup for lunch and lots of water/tea...you get the idea. Quite projectile...Long story short, now feel like I have quite bad cramping (could be bowels, could be uterus)

Feel like I could spew again but (a) nothing is left and (b) worried about this cramping.

99% sure this is not food poisioning, just a rather dramatic MS episode

Any vomitlicious advice?

Oh bless your heart Sad have no advice but just didn't want you to feel sad and scared.

If its any help my friend had the same kind of projectile in first and third trimester, and in the end got medication for it, so if it continues maybe see G>P. I suspect cramping just body reacting to the retching of stomach muscles??? Hope you feel better soon.xx

Hi Vanillapod,

Reading your post is interesting - I am now 11weeks + 6days and although I have felt nauseous from about 4 weeks I had not been sick at all until last weekend, when I suddenly felt an urgent need to vomit (and did). I wondered at the time if this was related to having just drunk a small cup of coffee (had lost my taste for it up until then so have been abstaining), BUT this morning the same thing happened again - out of the blue I felt extremely sick and was... no coffee involved this time though.

I was looking forward to the nausea ending, but it seems to be increasing!

When morning sickness goes from "just" nausea to actual vomiting, it can be quite sudden and dramatic. With me in both pregnancies I have mistaken it for a sickness bug and the first time assumed I had "damaged" the baby, cue trip to EPU (all fine)

Mine did progress to hyperemesis but hopefully yours won't. 9-10 weeks is supposed to be the peak time for vomiting so hopefully it will settle down again.

If not, or you find you can't keep any fluids down for 24 hours go to GP's.

Don't worry about it too much, and if you are worried call NHS Direct.

When I was 10 weeks with DD1 I had a 24-hour vomiting bug and it was very scary, having taken 3 years to conceive!

I called NHS Direct and the nurse reassured me that it's the mother's body that bears the brunt of bugs, whilst the baby steals all your nutrients.

But if it does continue for too long and you can't keep fluids down, you may need to go into hospital to be put on a drip.

Take care and rest up x

Ms can be awful! Both times I've had it bad from 5weeks to 20wks!!!

This time I regularly threw up so hard that I burst the tiny blood vessels in the skin around my eyes!!! Shock
it does get better but I did plan what to have for breakfast based on what was least horrid to re visit later in the morning!

Keep an eye on hydration levels and cramps but it is awful!

I'm 24 weeks now and still projectile vomit if i drink too much warm liquid. Especially if I cough just after I've finished a drink.
