Thank goodness for the anonymity MN provides!

Anyway, for quite some time now (started around 15 weeks, now 29) I've really suffered with really sore bits. I tried controlling it at home and when that didn't work I went to the doctor who as she was getting ready to examine me kept saying "yes yes thrush is very common" until she had a look and then said "Hmmmm. this isn't thrush" . I didn't think it was. she took a swab which came back fine and gave a script for a steroid/nystatin cream. Its works great.... until i stop. then the pain and itching comes back. I don't really want to be on steroids for any longer than necessary so am trying to come up with different things to dry. Last night I whacked some unscented moisturizer on there wondering if it was an eczema type things and it helped then but, its back to driving me nuts this morning. Anyone else ever deal with this?

Please don't let me be the only one Blush

i wonder if its something you eat/drink?

i only say this as when I was younger and drunk squash i used to get this and had to have steriod creams. certain foods/drinks/sweets used to set it off.

i cant eat/drink so many things now I am pregnant so might be something to think about?

sympathy for you though! x

Oh, poor you. I've just posted about a tender cervix. Perhaps we could start a support group Grin. WASP - Women Against Sore Privates.

What did your GP think it was? Was the steroid cream a stab in the dark? If it works then could you find out whether there's a milder version that you would be comfortable using for the rest of the pregnancy?

I once got eczema on my eyelids and it got infected. The infection prevented it from clearing up and I had to use antibiotics before it would clear. Has your GP checked that the site hasn't become infected as a result of it being irritated for so long?

You've put up with this for a long time. I'd go back and ask for them to look again.

Poor you. It couldn't be something rubbing you down there could it? I'm just wondering if maybe because you're presumably in maternity clothes now that there's something different that you're wearing that isn't fitting quite right and causing it?

Probably a bit of a stab in the dark but all I can think of.

Otherwise you could try something to rebalance the ph down there, maybe some probiotic supplements or natural yoghurt?

Hoping it gets sorted for you. x

Hi - I have this too - I think its to do with hormones and the fact that your bits are more swollen and moist than normal so they rub against knickers (in my case panty liner!) and cause friction. I stick to wearing joggers at home and use thrush cream when its really bad. I've been prescribed excema stuff for dermitius down there previously (not in pregnancy) and that helps too. Its unfortunately an unpleasant part of pregnancy - had it with all of them (this is my 3rd!) xx

Could it be labial varicose(sp) veins? My cousin had this. Went away after each pregnancy.

Thank you for all your replies... glad to know I'm not alone and love the WASP idea Prinpo :)

I am seeing the consultant next week anyway so will see if he has any more helpful hints but i think you are probably right Jellyhead188. I just wish something other than steroids would help clear it up. I sat with fanjo in the air yesterday afternoon Blush and tried cool clothes etc but was still walking like a cowboy by the time i went to bed. couldn't take it any more so slapped on steroid cream and it feels fine now... just wish it would last!

Oh well, suppose it could be worse and am in the home stretch now!

Thanks again

I think it's probably vulval varicosities. Sadly, it appears many GPs don't know an awful lot about this. The reason the steroids are helping is because they are reducing the local inflammation temporarily.
You need to get some horse chestnut and witch hazel gel from your local health food shop. These are astringent herbs which will reduce the amount of blood in the vulval blood vessels.
Hopefully your consultant will be able to give you a definitive diagnosis.
