Anyone else having nightmares/strange dreams?

Just hoping I'm not alone as have been freaking myself out with weird dreams lately. While awake I'm pretty happy and not worried about anything in particular (21 weeks and all going well so far), but I've been waking up in the night after awful and gruesome dreams often involving babies/birth but not always. Some of these are so awful I wonder where on earth my imagination got them from - can't bring myself to share all the details with DP. Guess it's just my brain coming to terms with a big life change - just wondering if anyone else has this too?

Perfectly normal part of pregnancy I'm afraid. I've not really had many vivid dreams this time round, and those that I have had have been odd ones, never about the birth or baby, but scary nonetheless (I dreamt that the red arrows all fell into the sea one after the other until there was only one left and then I chased it down the streets in a Ferrari Hmm. The pilots couldn't get out because the seats were all broken). A few days later the news was htat the Red Arrows had been grounded due to a problem wiht the ejector seats.

I had more vivid dreams with my previous 2 pregnancies, again nothign baby related, but was woken up by my ex a few times as I punching the crap out of him (maybe I wasn't really asleep Grin). I had one dream while pregnant with ds1 that frightened me so much I couldn't go to sleep on my own for a few months and was a couple of years before I could sleep without a light on.

Hi diyqueen

I'm there with you too. I keep dreaming about the baby being born at the moment (am 24+1) and being a ball of wool or a apple or something else wierd. I always have very vivid dreams in early preg, but don't recall having these before. My DD was born 6 wks prem and I had a medical miscarriage at 23 weeks with a previous DD as well, so I think it is anxiety for me, even if I am not conciously aware of it.
It's all those hormones! Don't worry about it!

Yeah it's normal! Smile

I've had some awful dreams. Some quite upsetting and then some that were just weird! I had a dream the other night that I gave birth to my baby and then over night she grew into a fully grown 6 year old, with braces on her teeth Hmm it was very weird and creepy!

When I was pg with DD I used to have lots of dreams that I was still at school. I think it was my fear that I was growing up, by having a baby and saying goodbye to my youth Grin.

I can identify! Last night I dreamt about DP walking over a frozen lake(?!). And I have also been having dreams about being at school. None of these have been frightening, but really have all been really vivid and weirdly mixed up seemingly unconnected events and locations. Confused

Me too I am 26+2 and been having lots of scary dreams. At the first trimester most nightmares was around miscarriages and now it involved to stillbirths. I think it's just nerves.

Also lots of dreams about being chased by psycos murderer etc...

I have a recurring dream where I forget to feed my newborn and he gradually shrinks until he is the size of a newborn mouse and when I then start breastfeeding he has little mouse teeth.....help! Blush

I have recurring one about putting the bay down on a changing table or similar, turning my back for a second and then not being able to find it again. I was all worried until my mum said she used to dream that she'd have the baby and it would have a massive deformity or disability and that she'd only realise when someone else pointed it out.

It seems it's completely normal, if horrible, to have weird dreams.

I think the strangest dream I had (and not to put too fine a point on it) a about a week ago was that I was going to have sex with a ghost who had a snake for a willy (how my DH laughed when I told him), lol :) xx

I have since been told that dreaming of snakes can mean someone I know or me is pregnant. In that case I am pregnant and so is my cousin, lol, so maybe there is something into dreams afterall, lol xx

How strange twinklebum. It would have been July(ish). I think Cowes week was the 1st thing they were grounded for and that was start of August.

I had some really odd but mostly fun dreams at the start to middle of my pregnancy but now i'm 35 weeks and my dreams have turned horrible. They are full of anxiety bits - teeth falling out etc and then vivid dreams of bad things happening to my baby.

I dreamt the other night I had to have an operation on my stomach. The surgeon was Jamie Redknapp and he wanted to get it done quickly as he had to play a round of golf so wasn't going to use anesthetic (SP?). I then realised as they wheeled me to theatre that I was in a gold club and the operation was going to take place on the first tee!!!

I've also had some very rude dreams that I won't get into here! But Blush

I've always been good at remembering my dreams but last night I had my first disturbing baby dream (am 22w now) that has ruined my day. A bad nights sleep = a grumpy Catherine!

Last night I dreamt someone kidnapped my daughter (the one I'm expecting) and had her locked in a room. I couldn't get in to get her out and I tried everything. When I eventually got into the room she was gone and I knew she had been moved to another room.

As a result I've had a migraine all day that just won't shift even with paracetamol.

Perfectly normal, now pregnant with dc2, had really weird dream the other night that all these veins started to pop out of my huge tummy and my belly button was bleeding - really freaked me out, I woke up and didnt dare go back to sleep! Just after having ds1 I had a dream that he was amongst all these 'evil babies' and I had to save him but make sure I was saving the right one! Sorry to say but it carries on, I think its beacuse you work through your worries in your dreams and when you have kids most of your worries centre on them!

I still remember one dream I had when I was preg with DD1 nine years ago! I'd just moved in to my current house and had to sleep on the sofa as my bed was in bits. I had a huge old cabin trunk at the end of the sofa, and I dreamed that the previous tenant was an old lady who had died here. She was in the trunk, waiting to get me, and the lid slowly started creaking open...
I woke up in utter panic! Turned all the lights on and sat watching TV for ages.

Crikey, this brings back some memories! When I was pegnant with DS1 (now 16), I dreamed that my (ex)H was tied to train tracks, like in a cartoon - a massive locomotive was looming and I was trying desperately to drag him free of the tracks. Woke up to find that I was on my hands and knees, shaking him - he had scratches all over his chest! (wish I'd left him there now). And when I was pregnant with DS2 (4) I dreamed that I gave birth to kittens that immediately proceeded to poo all over the kitchen.
So yeah, I would say that weird dreams are normal when you're pregnant, or just have a lot on your mind (dreamed the other night that DH was a bottle of shower gel - don't ask).
