How soon did you begin to show in your first pregnancy?

The title says it all really, how many weeks were you when you started to show?

By starting to show, I mean your belly being a little rounded when previously it was flat.

Oh ages! I was worried people would think I was making it up!

Think I had a very small bump by my 20 week scan.

I didn't look properly pregnant till the last two months.

I was similar to you passionberry, but my daughter, a size 6 normally is just 12 weeks (yesterday) and already has a slight bump! :o

I showed a lot earlier with my later pregnancies though.

Hmm, about 12 weeks I think. Was pretty bloated before that so it's difficult to tell as clothes were tight anyway. Got a small but obvious bump now at 16.5 weeks.

I was nearly 36 weeks before I was noticably pregnant to people on the street!

By 8 weeks people were congratulating me on the pregnancy without having been told!

I was a bit unnerved as it was my first and I would have liked to make the big announcement myself after 12 week scan.

Midwife at booking appointment got very excited when she saw me and immediately took me for a scan as she was convinced I was having twins after having felt my uterus.

Not sure why it was like that really. Was a sizs 10/12 (5'10") but perhaps it was more bloating than baby anyway.

By the time I was 6 months gone, I looked ready to pop and people were telling me: "not long now" and I took great delight in telling them: "oooh yes about another 3 months" - just to see the horrified looks on their faces.

Joking aside. It wasn't fun being so big. Never mind the struggle to get around and sore feet but it was depressing too.

Turns out DD was a large long girl and I literally had bucket of water on board (tidal wave when they broke).

First pregnancy and I'm finding it difficult to tell bloat from baby - especially when all I ate for the first 12 weeks were carbs. I'm 15 weeks now and definitely have a belly - but as I say whether its baby or bloat I'm not sure. Feels too high up (i.e. tummy rather than uterus) to be baby but my sister (mum to two DC) told me this morning "don't worry it will all blend into one very soon!" I did get offered a seat on the tube last week so I guess I should take that as a sign that I'm showing and I'm desperately clinging on to my last work suit that fits but its getting a bit ridiculous now as I have to have the buttons on the trousers undone and can't close the jacket over my enormous boobs!

11 weeks before I was asked if I was pregnant by someone at work. A few family members had guessed as early as 8 but not said anything!!! And was offered my first seat on a train at 13 weeks! (unfortunately a trend that didn't always continue, as am now 27 weeks and often get stuck standing!)

I just got really bloated really early on and have had a proper little bump from early on, though not really got bigger anywhere other than my tummy. Clearly just have rubbish stomach muscles or something!

I found it depended a lot on who is looking, how observant they are, if they are women who have been pregnant themselves, and what you are wearing.
I probably started to show to people other than close family (who said it was obvious earlier) somewhere between 22 and 27 weeks, but it depended a lot on what I was wearing.
At the moment (35+2) people either don't notice I'm pregnant (plumber today was surprised to see decorated nursery when he came to put a radiator back on) or think I am massive and due to give birth any second.

I'm 14+2 and just look chubby around the middle with clothes on but DH is slowly convincing me that there is a little bump there. My stomach is definitely a different shape to pre-pregnancy and only my biggest trouser and jeans have fitted since about 12 weeks.

About 16 weeks with first pregnancy, and with 2nd, about 10 minutes after peeing on the stick.

I'm pg with DC1 and couldn't fit into my jeans by week 7. Am now 18 weeks and look enormous!

I'm 16 weeks now and there's a tummy, for sure. Though I still think it might be mainly due to the amount I've eaten over the last few months and not going running anymore. I felt I was putting weight on so quickly at the beginning but it's slowed down a bit now. Right now I just feel thicker in the middle and all my jeans are too tight, though I can still get into them. Way off being ready for maternity clothes though and I really wish I could have a proper bump and not just look bigger. I had no idea that you spent SO long being pregnant and just looking a bit fat!

I'm 16 weeks with DC1 and starting to show but, to be honest, just look fat. It's not a neat bump, and it's mostly high up under my boobs where I've got a sort of 'dome' rather than lower down my tummy. But I was already fat, so I think it takes longer to show, and people who know me will be less inclined to comment!

I'm 17 weeks and have had a bigger tummy for a few weeks now - have lost weight over all so can put it down to being baby! I'm a size 16 though so doesn't look obvious that I'm pregnant could still be fat tummy but a few people at work have commented that I am showing when I've worn a more fitted top. It's exciting!

People were patting my stomach at about 12 weeks but I was horrifically bloated. Bump arrived about 18-20 weeks.

Deliaskis · 03/11/2010 12:50

At 12 weeks I was chubby round the middle and couldn't do up trousers, but people who didn't know me would have thought that was just the shape I was. Very quickly after that it became a bump, probably clear bump by 15 weeks.

It's funny though, as soon as I started wearing maternity clothes, it instantly looked bigger, because they're shaped to hold your bump, whereas a lot of non-mat stuff is designed to go in at the waist. My waist disappeared very quickly, before 12 weeks.

I was previously on the chubby side so could gain/lose half a stone and not really notice visually. But in the first 12 weeks I could hardly keep anything down so actually lost weight.

You definitely change shape due to bloating and expanding internal organs before you get a neat, firm bump that is made up of baby.

I think for me it was around 15 weeks.

Report
Mahraih · 03/11/2010 16:56

Hmm, probably about 10 weeks? I remember thinking, 'god someone's going to notice soon'.

I was a size 8 and 5'10 before (now 5'11 apparently, is that possible?!).
