Hello!
Has anyone looked into/got experience of this as a way of calming self slightly ahead of labour? I'm 27 wks and already thinking about it so wondered if you'd recommend the books/cds? x

i would wholeheartedly recommend it! I used it with dc2 and had the most amazing labour despite him being 10lbs 13oz!

i bought 3 CD's and listened every day to the birth preparation in the 6 or 8 weeks before he was born. didnt actually use the cd during labour but think the subconscious side of it really helped me.

cant remember where i got them from but i'm sure an internet search would easily find them.

i've been listening to the marie mongan one and i'm only 25 weeks Blush
it's really relaxing though and i'm getting quite excited about the birth so it's changed my outlook. also helps when i can't sleep Grin

oh, it may take a while to get used to her voice though!

think this was the website here but the cd covers look different which isnt surprising since dc2 was 6 last weekend! but he was definitely the easiest birth out of my 3 dc!

(i didnt have so much time to use it with dc3 since he was born only 22 months after dc2 and really noticed the difference!)

I didn't like the look/sound of Hypnobirthing, but am loving Natal Hypnotherapy. It's a lot cheaper too! Especially as you could just buy the Effective Birth Preparation CD at first and see if you like it before buying anything else (and IMO all you need extra is the Birth Music CD).

Ive been in touch with my local hypnobirthing practitioner (Mongon method) and am really excited about using this for my labour and delivery. IM only 16 weeks but already my prectitioner has filled me with joy at the prospect of bringing my baby inot the world , we are currently reading the book in preperation for starting our 4 x 3 hour long 'classess' in January. There are group classess but we have chosen to do private ones at home and for ÂŁ275 pounds inc all books/ cds resources etc I think its fairly priced. Check out youtube for some amaaaaaaaaazing vids of women giving birth using hypnobirthing, they are truly inspirational xxxx

gpmama im doing a course in january too - sounds like you got a really good deal as i will be paying ÂŁ265 for group classes.

I'm still toying with the idea of just getting cd/book, but not sure if that will be enough, and if it will involve my dh enough? He's already sceptical....

These are all really useful responses- thanks!
I might sound completely stupid now Blush but what's the difference between hypnobirthing and natal hypnotherapy?

Another vote for Natal Hypnotherapy (sorry don't know what the difference is with the other school). I bought their CDs off Ebay and they were great - really helped with labour and feeling calm in the run up to the birth.

I wonder if someone has copyrighted "hypnobirthing" and "natal hypnotherapy" but think they are fundamentally the same!

HypnoBirthing is copyrighted and is a complete antenatal programme that includes much more than just the hypnosis sessions though that is an important part of it. If you think your partner is important in the process then definitely go for HB

I'm using the Natal Hypnotherapy CDs, i'm nearly 33 weeks and had been terrified of the idea of the birth. 2 weeks of listening to the CDs and already i'm feeling more relaxed about it, to the point that i've actually started writing a birth plan something i had previously been refusing to do hoping the docs would just pump me full of drugs, now i'm ready to take control.

Can I ask please wihtout sounding stupid? I am booked to have my 6th c section in 4 weeks. Desparately looking for a " system" to ease the fear and take me " out of hte theatre" emotionally ( as i ahve to be there physically).

From what I have read on this thread there are tapes to listen to pre labour - are they designed to help you relax and can you recall them during labour or in my case a section so you have something to focus on ? Or am I barking up the wrong tree???

I chose Natal Hypnotherapy as I preferred the british accent on the CDs (although I think Maggie Howell is actually Dutch).

Bought the CDs on ebay and found the whole package fantastic.

Felt very positive about DS's birth and had a very straightforward and relatively quick delivery.

Haven't managed to devote as much time to listening to the CDs this time round with DC2, but am hoping the subconscious memory will see me through Smile

I'd strongly recommend NH for both relaxation during pregnancy and for boosting confidence in your body's ability to give birth.

Good luck

Lisa - I think you can put a birth preparation CD that is specifically tailored to having a C section and that you listen to in the weeks beforehand. I think they then suggest that you can listen to the background music (available on a separate CD) during the birth itself as it helps you remember all you've learnt.

lisalisa - the appropriate Natal Hypnotherapy CD would still help IMO. There's a specific "Prepare for a Caesarean" CD: www.natalhypnotherapy.co.uk/14.html

Both "Natal Hypnotherapy" and "Hypnobirthing" are trademarked names for two methods of hypnotherapy for birth.

I choose Natal Hypnotherapy as I preferred the British accent, preferred the less "woo-ey" approach and wanted something I could do with self-hypnotherapy CDs both so that I could try it out without much outlay and because I've done self-hypnosis (and hypnotherapy) in the past and felt confident to try it myself.

Hi

I am a HypnoBirthing mum and practitioner in the midlands,

I think if you can afford to, go for a course - either Hypnobirthing or Natal Hypnotherapy!

They both teach you to relax during pregnancy and birth and so either will be fabulous for you!

I know the cost of courses can be an issue however HypnoBirthing Practitioners should offer you classes at a reduced rate if cost is an issue. Personally i have reduced the cost of my classes dramatically to allow most women to be able to afford the classes which in comparison to just buying the cd and a book will offer you so much more information, advice and support!and is not hugly more expensive now!

Good luck and enjoy your calm relaxed births!
