Catarrh in pregnancy?

Pootletrinket · 22/10/2010 07:58

I've had dreadful catarrh for over 5 weeks now; most mornings it makes me gag, some mornings it makes me sick. Am sure it's pregnancy related from other things I've read but my questions are - is there anything I can do to get rid of it and how long will it last?!?!?!?! Am being driven slightly over the edge by it!! TIA :)

I had this! Mostly around the first 8 weeks when I was really stuffy nose. As that faded it got better.

For me it's a precursor to ms so fingers crossed you don't go the same way!

I had this from about 8 weeks and still have it at 23 weeks! Sorry, I don't know a way of getting rid of it as if I did I wouldn't still have it.

I too end up throwing up in the morning because of it, it's gross.

Sorry, this isn't what you wanted to hear, but yes it probably is pregnancy related!

I haven't had any actual morning sickness though (as in when I am sick in the mornings, there is absolutely no nausea in my stomach or anything, I don't feel sick, I just get the gag reflex), so hopefully it doesn't necessarily mean that.

I was going to post something very similar as i am suffering particularly at the moment. I am 12+2 and for especially the last week I have been so 'gunky' in my throat, most in the night and first thing when i wake up. I am always a bit like this but this seems to be extra!

I am not throwing up with it (but that might be just cos i am sort of 'used to' it) but it feels horrible. Am coughing like a 40 a dayer too! Fortunately I haven't had morning sickness either (so far).

The only things I can suggest (discovered through having a lifetime of gunk!)is cutting down a bit on the dairy (great from me - i eat so much cheese i could be a mouse!) and upping the oranges/fresh OJ intake. The citrus seems to 'cut through' the catarrh. But be warned you will probably find it makes for a very 'productive' cough - ewww!

I had this with all 4 of mine, to the point of up chucking every morning.

I gave up all things dairy and Ta-da! all was fixed!

But iMum I simply can't give up dairy, most of my cravings are for cheese! OK I will try and cut down though, although am not having loads TBH.

pissovski I agree citrus stuff helps. I normally get up, throw up, and then have a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice and feel immediately better.

iMum I assume regardless of dairy intake, this would just clear up after pregnancy anyway? I can't do this forever, and can't give up dairy forever!

Deliaskis i assume you have not suffered particularly with catarrh pre - pregnancy? If not then it probably will clear up without issue. I have had mine since birth so i just kind of have got used to it.

There is no way i could live without cheese! Its probably best just to keep having a small glass of orange a few times a day and counteract the dairy that way :)

pissovski I have had catarrh on and off but it's certainly been a lot worse since pregnancy. Fingers crossed it goes!

Hmm, morning sickness hit at 4 weeks and seems (hopefully) to be on it's way out (almost 16) - catarrh hit around 10 weeks and has a lovely set of other symptoms. Am avoiding dairy, but will try more citrus!

Good evening, please I've been having serious catarrh and cold for the past three months now. I'm in my 21weeks pregnancy. I don't know what to do about it. I've been taking vitamin c still. I had this catarrh in my first pregnancy and I was told that after delivery it will disappear. To my greatest surprise, it was still still there till after 1year plus. It has started again, I cannot touch water, if I do it will start with constant sneezing. I'm tired. Please what do I do?
