I stopped eating runny egg for about 5 months.. after that could not resist.. so naughty Smile

Then have one. The Food Standards Agency website says you can have runny eggs as long as they're from vacinated chickens. Supermarket Lion stamped eggs are yours for the taking.

I think there's a link to the FSA on the do's and don't of pregnancy on Mumsnet so check it out. You may find that you can eat more things than you thought. Our Health Authority is still spouting the no pink meat, sushi or runny eggs stuff, but it just hasn't trickled thought the system of red tape yet.

I'd go boiled with marmite toast. Enjoy!!!!

Just have one. I don't understand why people don't!

The sushi ban lasted for about 3 months.. after that I just could not resist. My GP said if it comes from a reputable shop, and if I have it once a week, should do no harm.

Runny egg and sushi are among my favourite foods..

i had the last eggy scrambled. it was good but not a runny yolk.

i've been on the FSA website slimyak this is what they say

"Raw or partially cooked eggs
Avoid eating raw eggs and food containing raw or partially-cooked eggs. Only eat eggs cooked enough for both the white and yolk to be solid. This is to avoid the risk of salmonella, which causes a type of food poisoning."

as i'm a worrier i think i'll steer clear but it's going to be my first treat once dc2 arrives!

I have refused to even contemplate giving up runny eggs and had some delicious poached eggs on toast this morning.

The eggs we get are from vaccinated chickens so the chances of getting salmonella are ridiculously low. This is just one of those examples of advice on what you can't eat in pregnancy being completly out of proportion to all risk, and as others have said rather behind the times.

Eat your runny egg and enjoy!

I've had runny eggs, fried and boiled. My husband makes the BEST runny boiled eggs! I love them, so much better than when I make my own. And I've had blue cheese, and very rare steak and shelfish.

I am quite lax about the rules....

Definitely eat your runny egg!!
This general paranoia about food when pregnant is ridiculous! as a lot of people have pointed out, as long as your egg is from a vaccinated hen, then you are fine.

I have been eating runny eggs, sushi (from reputable places where the fish is frozen at very low temperatures), unpasterized cheese and cured ham...so did our mums and our grans and everyone else before that!

I had runny eggs when I was pregnant. DD is fine. Well, she doesn't sleep, but I'm pretty sure that's not the reason!

I was so sick that when I did fancy eating something I had it - including brie and runny eggs. And the odd glass of wine. Can't say I feel particularly guilty.

Id be more worried about undercooked meat than runny eggs!

i don't have a problem with anyone else indulging in what they want. if you want it have it!

but i'm such a neurotic worrier i do stick to the rules about everything regarding pg. just how i am. Blush

fwiw after ds arrived after a horrible labour ending in emcs i went relentlessly though everything i did/ might have done wrong in relation to labour/ preparing for labour. i am a but what if kind of person

JoEW: very rare steak is on the ok list in England at least. I like to tell people this as well done steak is a waste of steak. As long as the outside is properly seared, you can have your steak/roast beef/lamb rare.

Unless you're in Scotland, where apparently the rules are different.

soppypreggyloon I don't know anything about your labour, but I don't believe anyone has a bad birth because of something they've done.

I enjoyed plenty of runny eggs. I figured there was a tiny risk of salmonella from vaccinated hens and that salmonella wouldn't directly affect the baby, compared to say listeria from brie which can cause serious harm to the baby itself.

Enjoy your egg and soldiers!

Sad that anyone would think it was their "fault" they had a emcs (I had one too).

domesticgodddess i know. i was a bit of a state at the time.

the point i was trying to make was that i am one of those people who blame themselves/ think what if i'd done things differently etc etc

i'm now ok (ish) with my emcs and will probably go for a elcs this time

right back to eggy thoughts! :)

I did some research on this and agree with some above - eggs with the lion stamp are from vaccinated hens.

Basically all eggs from supermarkets will have this stamp.

All UK chickens have to be vaccinated, I think.

Small corner stores may sell imported eggs which may not be subject to the same laws/regulations.

I did this research to justify eating a friend's homemade tiramisu containing raw egg!!

OP I was the same as you. I really wanted a runny egg, I dreamt about it. Couldn't do it though.

Same with the em cs. I still think now 'what if'.

I think it's a personality thing. And the guilt of having eaten the egg would outweigh the pleasure iyswim.

I heard that you could eat runny/dippy eggs as long as they were lion stamped...so Iv been eating fried eggs and just double checking they were in date and stamped
