baby movement stopped...

Hi All

I am 23+5 and only really started feeling the baby move properly about 1.5 weeks ago (i have anterior placenta so MW told me movements were being cushioned)

Was so lovely to feel the baby move at last and my husband even managed to feel a kick a couple of times, however since saturday eveing i haven't felt any movement whatsoever...

Is this normal? will there be days when baby is inactive or should i be concerned do you think?

I have a scan on thursday as my 20week scan was not completed so will be able to see (hopefully) baby is okay then, just thought i would post to get the views of mums who might have experienced this

I am prone to thinking the worst about everything at the best of times, i'm finding being PG and hormonal is such a rollercoaster of emotions! Confused

It may be nothing but you should definitely be concerned. You should go to the labour ward where you are due to give birth and ask them to check you out. It is one of the things which they say should be treated as an emergency. Are you still feeling pregnant in other ways?

The standard advice is to lie down and have a cold or hot drink. Ideally you should feel "reactive" kicks.

I do not want to alarm as feeling of movement in early pg can just be related to the position of the baby (in some positions, relatively early on, it is easier to feel than others). Don't wait till Thurs. Go along even if it is just to put your mind at rest.

agree with larrygrylls. ring your midwife/labour ward.

did you try drinking something hot/cold? Or eating something surgary? mine also "responds" nicely to a hot bath....

probably baby just changed position and due to anterior placenta you can't feel it as well but I would certainly get it checked out - if only to put my mind to rest.

Hi Amony. There was a similar thread to this one over the weekend, and the general consensus was to get everything checked out as soon as possible. As you'll see the chances are everything is fine, but worth checking.

Hi All

Thanks for this, i just drank a cold glass of juice and i'm now feeling some slight movement very low down so my mind has been put at ease a little now but i will keep my eye on it (so to speak)

Thanks again x

That is great news.

I am not sure if you have been told this but babies "normally" operate on a 2 hourly cycle so, when you can feel all the kicks, that is the frequency you can expect. However it is v variable and I think the guideline is to go in if you feel nothing for 6 hours and I think that applies after 24 weeks. My wife is pg with number 2 but I have forgotten the exact guidelines. Someone will know a lot more than me on here, I am sure.

Loud music used to work with our boy but that was later in PG. We used to think he liked it, but I think retrospectively that it was annoying him :). Still, it told us he was OK.

Hi Amony

I am further along than you (nearly 39 weeks) and spent yesterday getting checked as the bump had not completely stopped moving, but had slowed right down overnight.

The important thing to remember is that none of the test they do are dangerous to you or the baby, so there is no problem with having them done. The other thing to remember is that as soon as you get on the phone (or get to the triage area in my case) the little one will start wriggling away (probably as you relax and get less anxious). I felt like a bit of a fraud but everyone I saw was very sympathetic and it was reassuring to have a scan and see all was in good order (head down, poised for action).

I would give you MW or labour ward a call & take it from there.

23 weeks is quite early to expect regular movements though, my midwife told me to start taking note at about 28 weeks.
And if you have an anterior placenta you're quite likely to have quiet days just now I think.

...even popping to the doctor to get them to listen for your baby's heartbeat with a doppler will help lay your mind at rest.

Not an expert so can't advice.

But for my experience, didn't feel baby move that much during whole pregnancy (had some days when she did but then appeared to 'sleep' for days...)

I started feeling them at approx 20+2, and then they stopped for a week.

Turned out the baby had turned and was now kicking something I couldn't feel.

It then moved back and voila, kicking started again. If you're really worried, ask them to listen to baby's heartbeat (I know my hospital doesn't 'give out' scans easily but is happy to listen in)

Hi Amoney, I had an anterior placenta with my DS so the movements were irregular for me too, especially from 20 - 25 weeks ish. I never panicked as was told it was to be expected but I still went and got checked if I hadnt felt anything after all the usual advice didnt work, cold drink, lying down etc. I had to be monitored several times but never once was I made to feel a nuisance or time waster.

I didn't feel any regular movements until quite recently (am 28 weeks now), at 23w I had light movements, flutters, then nothing for a while (a couple of days?) - the baby has loads of room to float about at this stage, so you won't feel every movement. Echo what others have said though - if you're very worried, go in & get it checked...no harm in being cautious & better to put your mind at rest.

amoney am 22+3 and recently experienced exactly what you are going through now. Had 20 week scan and saw lots of baby movement and have been feeling it since week 18 but after a stressful few days at work her movements seemed to stop completely for about 24-36 hours. I was panicking so much and drove myself mad with worry. I posted on here and the lovely ladies were fab at reassuring me. At this stage baby is still very small in quite a large space and a slight shift in his/her position will mean you dont feel them move about so much. So I tried just chilling out for a few days and lo and behold baby came back with a vengeance! Grin However to copy what the other posters if you are anxious speak to someone and go get it checked. Will make you feel better if nothing else. Keep us posted x

I've just been to yoga and relaxation class and felt a little bit more movement so will just see what happens at the scan on thursday and will mention it to the MW on monday

Cheers again Smile
