I was wondering if anyone has any traditional but unusual baby names boy/girl,

so far we have pheobe and jacob but that's it really (i'm not too fussed on either well really like pheobe but DH isn't too fussed and wondered if u guys could help out)

good job we've still got 6 months to finalise and pick one!

Good one, munz!

Was just reading a book w/a lead character called Esme. Thought that sounded kinda cool.

For a boy, how about Joel or Jared?

expat what was the book? I have an Esme - of course she is very cool! she might like a book with an Esme in. (we have JD Salinger and Saki stories about Esmes but they are a bit old for her at present)

DH doesn't like joel, he's a 'william' sort of a man iycwim, where as i'm the Kai's and stuff like that, for girls i'm like a Bethan sort of a person where as he's more like a sarah etc.. he's your bog standard so to speak (so offence to any one with those names either)

the other thing of course is we have a huge family so I didn't really want to double up on anyone's name as then it looks like we're 'picking' thier name when were not iycwim.

ooh DH loves TP books - althou I don't understand them lol. like the lord of the rings as well - don't get them ones either!

How about some traditional ethnic names? For example, if you're Welsh, Rhys for a boy and Bronwyn for a girl?

We went Scottish for DD and are thinking of the same for this one.

es - I actually do like rhys but don't think DH does, he's from yorkshire and i'm from the south so we have v different views on names althou I do like issac, might have to suggest that one Jacob or issac?

Any names we settled on early on in the pregnancy were "out of favour" towards the end of the pregnancy. Dh wanted ds to be Finley which I loved and then I went off it. Ds ended up being Max but it took a lot of persuading by me and a little compromise on the 2nd name (ended up giving him fil's name as a 2nd name who I never liked). I bet yr dh will decide at 8 months!!

well we weren't ment to be talking about it till then, but i'm starting to get exciteds and the fmaily's asking what we're thinking for names - nan wnts one she can at least pronounce so we'll have to for warn her! - bless her, has false teeth and struggles.

Munz, if you do use Phoebe, please spell it Phoebe and not Pheobe!

Currently having same mammoth task of choosing a name that both DH and I agree on - we also want traditional but a bit unusual (we don't want the "What the heck?" factor when we tell people the name, nor do we want "Oh, yes I know 17 people with the same name from everyone we tell - it's hard!).

My dh and i have decided on Flynn if we have a boy and Eloise or Erin for a girl.
I love Megan but it will undoubtedly be shortened and Meg reminds me of a witches cat!
