My gp told me I could take nasal spray and eye drops as the absorption is far less than tablet form. I use boots own brand and she said they were fine - pharmacist had previously said no tho so only take it on the days I want to rip own head off!

I was also told nasal spray and eye drops ok but needed a prescription. Have you tried sticking vaseline up your nostrils to stop some of the pollen getting in.

use sterimar, it is a saline type spray, you can use it during pregnancy as it has nothing much in it. I didnt think it would work on me, cos nothing else does apart from taking a tablet. It worked wonders and after a while I didnt need to use it at all. Once I stopped breastfeeding my hayfever all of a sudden came back with a vengence for some strange reason!

My GP, who I trust, also said that he could prescribe nasal spray and eye drops that would be fine. I used those and they helped. Definitely go and speak to your GP. I'm sure the pharmacist meant well but she may have been thinking just of what she had to sell over the counter.

My GP also said that certain brands of antihistamine tablet are OK - basically the older they are, the more likely they are to be fine as they have effectively been tested over many years without obvious ill effects. The more recent / non-drowsy versions are less tried. However he did say the risk was not huge in any case, but advised me to try the spray and drops and said if they didn't work to come back. Fortunately they did. Get an appointment asap!

I was prescribed a nasal spray (beconase I think) and was told citrizine tablets are ok if I have to take something. Just don't take loratidine tablets.

I've had horrendous hay fever this summer and went to the chemist for something - they said I needed to see a GP to get a prescription for suitable tablets (can't remember their name, but they're ok for pregnant and breastfeeding women).
She also gave me eyedrops which were fab. The chemicals in the eye drops aren't absorbed into your bloodstream because the eyes are outside the blood/brain barrier apparently (according to my DH who knows about that sort of thing!).

Looks like a visit to your GP is a good idea - good luck! Smile

Also, you can just ring your Gp about it if you can't get an appointment. Might save you a wait, and its no fun suffering, I know.

Like Button I was told by midwife & GP that Piriton is fine.

Its horrible, isn't it? I was also told that Piriton was OK. Chemists will be far more restrictive than GPs will be.

I found with eyes regularly using normal (non anti hyst) eye drops helped. A bit of vaseline around the entrance to the nose also seemed to take the edge off.

In first and second trimester Piriton is ok, so is beconase nasal spray and eye drops, but no worthwhile pharmacist will agree to sell them to a pregnant woman. The GP will definitely prescribe them for you. AND you will get them free as exempt from prescription charges.

Meanwhile for the eyes try dipping cotton wool in black tea cooled in the fridge & putting it on your eyes. It will soothe the itching and inflammation.

Hiya

I have a health and well being business and get asked this all the time.here's some ideas

Chamomile tea bags - on the eyes. ordinary tea bags, as ethelina says will also work

Balm Balm - available online or in boots / superdrug and you rub the wax inside your nostrils which catches the pollen particles before they get UP your nose.

Bee pollen - I am pregnant and take this(all year round), though still effective if you start now. I sell loads of this in summer.

Wash your face - as soon as you come in from outdoors.
