Hi,

I have been experiencing on and off pains just above my tummy button (maybe an inch above) and in a very small central area. The pains are quite sharp rather then crampy, maybe more like a stitch feeling. I am 12.5 weeks pregnant, anyone else have this?

Many thanks,

? potential ? appendicitis, maybe. The pain will probably move to the right side if it is (but it can remain central). Do you also feel sick/have been sick (though this would be hard to tell from morning sickness)? Do you have soft stools/yellow stools? Both common with appendicitis when it's getting started, and you may, or may not have a temp with it.

If you press the sore bit, slowly, as far in as your hand can press, then SUDDENLY pull the hand away - what's sorest? the hand pressing in, or the hand being pulled out? Sorest when the hand is pulled away may suggest appendicitis.

OR it may be nothing at all......... Worth seeing your GP, or A&E if it gets worse when the GP surgery is closed.

Hi Oldmum42,
Thank you for your advice, gosh I hope its not appendicitis!

Its not hurting now and doesn't seem to hurt when I touch it, it happens more when I bend or make sudden movements I think. If I gets worse I will seek medical help though, two of my friends have had appendicitis and its not been pretty!

Thank you.

My SIL just had it a few weeks ago - kind of rumbled on for about a month before getting worse (at which point she was throwing up and had temp and side pain), but told this was a very unusual thing - normally gets worse within a day or two I think.SIL was not pregnant though. But your pain doesn't sound very pregnancy related either!.... no cramps, no low-down or side pain is reassuring on that front.

If it doesn't hurt when you press, and seems more related to movement maybe you have just injured the muscle there - it's possible that the muscles may be pulling apart a little (ver, very common for them to "split" during preg), but 12 weeks is early for that to start.

I had something similar to this and following a previous MC, I was scared as it was a similar feeling - turned out that it was whenever I had wind... Blush

Could this be a possibility if it's not there all the time?

Thanks both of you for your advice, I had a mc earlier this year and the pain is completely different, I think oldmum might be right and it might be muscular, it feels too much on the surface to be gas related but who knows, it's almost like a bruised feeling. I am going to keep a strict eye on it. Thanks again.
